1st time at the drag strip with my 2021 M5 Competition and the 1st time I ran a 10 second pass.

Car is easy to launch and feels like a rocket!🚀

The 2020/2021 F90 M5 is just crazy fast stock. Running 10’s stock is crazy to me.

That updated tranny seems to really help the car launch better

I have a 2019...what updated tranny? Do the 2020 models or LCI models also have an updated tranny? I am pretty sure mechanically the m5 competition only differs suspensiom wise (it is softer with components from m8 gc)

It uses the ZF 8HP76 hardware (also found in the M8). The pre-LCI uses the ZF 8HP75. The updated hardware can handle more torque, faster shifts, etc.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that it was just a software update and the hardware was the same.

I believe 2020 pre lci’s built after 9/2019 have the ZF 8HP76 is as well. I could be wrong but i think thats the case.

I think you're right actually, and some of the late pre-LCIs got it too, although I'm not sure the exact production date that started

It's rated for an additional 10NM of torque (only 7.38 ft lb).

Curious to see some real data between the internal changes and shift times

Cool note about the trans. My m5 ran 1/8th and 1/4 identically, including trap speed, and (twice) even a bit faster than the OP's (OP's will surely also do better). I would not imagine the newer m5 being any faster but perhaps the tranny can be more robust for tuning but then again im just speculating
