2022 M5 CS Alcantara Steering Wheel

Can this be installed on a 2018 M5?

I have been wanting to do the Alcantara swap, but I am having picking which 3rd party company to use.

So, if this is able to be done, I'd love this.

If it can't, be done, does anyone have a 3rd party company that they like? Alot of them are oversees and I'd like to try to avoid that.

Most likely. Contact IND.
You lose heated wheel with that, which you may not need anyway in Tampa. lol.

2022 M5 CS Alcantara Steering Wheel

It is possible. You would need new trim, paddles, connector line and control unit. You will also lose driver assist and heat steering function if equipped. This is directly from a vendor. I was in the market for one.

I think its actually easier, and far cheaper to just have your current wheel retrimmed in alcantara ?. I went into this somewhat, and there seems to be an extra electrical harness, for the CS wheel too, for what im not too sure, because i was then put off with the price, so forgot about it.

FSHNGRY posted some pictures of a custom steering wheel he ordered from AZA AUTOWHEEL. I thought it came out really well.

Can you post a picture of the back of the wheel where the new trim meets the back?
I am in the process of rewrapping a 128i wheel and it looks like you can't just push it behind the trim, like the front. You need to shave it back and glue it down.
Thanks!

The trim pieces should attach just fine. But Id have to see both frames side by side to see the mounting points for the trim pieces. And the paddles are the same as far as connecting so NO you don't need new paddles. I run CS paddles on mine. They're identical. This extra electrical box should be pointless as you should just be able to swap your electronics and trim onto the frame. Again would need to see pics of both to confirm the screw holes.

But yes, cheaper to just have it wrapped in micro suede.

To clarify these items are needed for a pre LCI.

Yes. 2020 is Pre-LCI. The steering wheel frame didn't change. Just the buttons. Paddles are also the same.

I'm aware of what is pre LCI. I'm speaking of MY car and what I was told by a vendor on this forum that sells the steering wheel that I was in communication with. I agree that the trim outline looks to be the same (different color though) with different buttons as well as the paddles. It's the OP's money, just passing along info.

Does wrapping the wheel interfere with lane keep assist at all?

I was able to retain all factory functions (Driver Assistance Package Plus / Heat / Lane departure b/s) all work as normal - AND I selected and was able to have wheel be part alcantara and part leather. I had a company called @azaautowheel (instagram) make it for me. I couldn't be happier now almost a year later!

I too, had the 3D Design paddles ordered from IND. All etched parts (+/-) painted gloss black to match piano black trim.

Some quick pics I had on my laptop

do yourself a favor and contact coby wheel (or Colby i forget) in GA.

He will wrap you wheel in alcantara, and retain the heated function. Did this on f10, did the stripe in orange as well (to match Sahkir)

Fast service, and quality. And it wont cost you over 1k, even with next day shipping both ways. You're welcome..

It's gonna take several tries as you're doing it blind and you'll be surprised how many wrong places that tool will go before it hits the spring. Lol

I can confirm , as I just ordered and installed a M5 CS wheel I ordered from IND...

Heated function does not work, which we knew.

But, unless I did something wrong, or just didnt try hard enough, my 2019 M5 Comp with driving assist does not work. There is a cut out in the 2019 steering wheel for the a module, and the m5 CS wheel does not have this cut out. So you would need to get creative to find a location for the module. I suppose possibly could cut it out carefully on your own, as it seems to be a soft plastic/foam-ish material, that could probably be cut open pretty easily. I did modify the old heated wheel button to make it fit in the CS wheel, as I didnt have CS trim and there would be an open hole where the button was. So I had to trim the back of the button, and remove the module it was connected to also. I did this simply to fill the hole, rather than buy new trim. I may eventually try to do some arts and crafts with a razor blade, or Dremel tool on the inside of the CS wheel and get the module to fit so I can use the driving assist function. But not worth it at the moment for me.

Everything else swapped right over, paddles, trim, wiring harness, airbag, etc. only the heated wheel and driving assist are now in operable. Neither of which are a big deal to me. Here is a photo of the 2019 comp wheel removed module and cut out.
