Rental cars
Ok 2 parts to this thread:
1) Help me choose a rental car. Here are the options: - 2022 Honda Civic - $65/day - 2018 Alfa Stelvio - $68/day - 2021 Tesla Model Y Performance - $101/day - 2021 Acura TLX - $91/day I'm leaning towards the Stelvio, but sort of intrigued by trying out the all new Civic or the TLX. The Tesla is in here because that's awfully cheap for a performance model. 2) What are some interesting rental cars you guys have had in the past?

i would take the civic because it's the cheapest...
My craziest rental was the full size Tahoe that was brand new... it drank gas like an F16 and was so large that I could barely fit anywhere.

Meh on all of those, lol. But I guess I'd take the civic.
I have rented cars (up until covid) weekly for 20 years. My best scores from recent memory were a Chevy SS Convertible, the Ecoboost (4T) Mustang convertible, and a VW Passat 3.6 SEL. 98% of rental cars are supremely unremarkable. Most times, I ended up in a Nissan Altima--oh the horrors-, a Ford Fusion, or a Chevy Malibu. |

I'm cheap so I would take the Alfa because for the couple extra bucks I'd rather try that than a civic.
If I was a baller I would do the Tesla, but that assumes charging wont be a pita. Since I don't know any details about the trip I'm not sure if charging will be easily available or not. |

Back in the day, BC, depending on the airport, Hertz had some sweet rides in their presidents circle -select any car on the lot deal, you just had to get there at the right time and beat all the other presidents circle guys.
I've been grounded since March 2020, so I had no idea there's a shortage of rental cars. |

Charging shouldn't be an issue, it'll be mostly local driving and I'll be staying at my in-law's house so should just be able to recoup what little mileage I use through the standard wall outlet overnight. That being said... I think I'm leaning towards the Stelvio. It's not exactly quick but handling should be fun.

It might end up being between that and the Stelvio. I've driven a model 3 performance and a model s p90d in the past so I'm fairly familiar with them.

With the craziness around cars these days, I recently had to get a rental due to a rat with antlers running into my grocery getter. Because Enterprise pretty much didn't have any cars to rent out, I ended up getting Audi A5 S line for the price of a standard car. I had the Audi for I think 3 days and paid a total of $30.
Had a little fun with the situation. I parked the A5 and my 135i together in my driveway. Took a pic and sent it to some friends with the caption, YOLO. Car was still pretty new with just over 6k miles. |

Thats gone now...even without a shortage, we have an Enterprise office we deal with daily. Unless youre in an accident and get a replacement rental while your car is in the shop, basic rental is around $100/ day retail (in this area)

I did see a few old Nissan Altimas for around $25/day.... but I think I'd rather walk in that case

I was able to rent a Ford Edge through Hertz at ATL last month for $44 (+ $12 in airport / government fees and taxes, which is a ridiculous tax rate but whatever). I was expecting worse. I think pricing is location-dependent.

This isn't exactly the most exciting lineup of cars I know... there are very few exciting cars to be had in Norfolk, VA and some of the more exciting ones are in the $150/day and up range. I'll be there for a week so really don't want to spend over $1k on a car that gets limited use.
