Good luck in your search. This is the only option I didn't have on mine. I called recently to see about converting and was quoted about $16,000. Ouch. Needless to say I declined. But every time I see the brake dust on my rims I think about it again. LOL.

Just replace your stock pads to PorterFields RS4 or Endless MX72.

I’m doing it to cut 50lbs of rotational mass. Brake dust secondary plus.

I could be wrong, but I think the CCB cars also have a different master cylinder than the steel brake system. Just might want to look into that before try to change just the rotors and calipers if you find what you're looking for.

This really highlights what a relatively good deal the initial $8300 cost is for CCBs.

He's chasing what some would call a pipe dream. New master cylinder and lines needed. It's been done before but it's not easy and the guy that did it bought a new kit.. they are very expensive if not just bought with car. Advice is justOrder a new car with ccb if you can if not just forget about it and be happy with cheaper to replace steel brakes

Get the car down close to 4000 lbs and it would feel noticeably more athletic. Lighter front seats, lighter wheels, lighter brakes would help.

Do you know this for a fact? Thought it was just rotors, calipers and an update to the software..

Wish it came with them, damnit.

No I don't know it for a fact, but I suspect there is different hardware beyond the calipers and rotors. Asking your service adviser what is included in the 16k bill should give you your answer though.

Also, why does TrevorM3 always have a supercilious comment to make about M5 questions on an M5 forum? Weight is weight. Unsprung mass matters more. Why discuss weight reduction for a 3500 lb car when a 2500 lb car could be had? You're an argument looking for a problem.

yep - always specify ceramics if it is an option. mainly for brake dust/rust prevention, but also fade on track - the 21kg saving on unsprung weight is a bonus.

On track the ceramics very quickly get upto 900c iirc, but brake fade is non existent even after 10 hard laps for me.

its worth looking on realoem.com or asking bmw dealer to see if a diff master cylinder is required.

I called the dealer, the questions kind of stopped after he said ONE front rotor was $6000 CDN…

I’m pretty sure I seen some posts or something where a guy did it and rotors, calipers and a software flash was all that was needed. Regardless, with the price, it might be a pipe dream… I would need to find a wreck that the brakes weren’t damaged.

If I ordered the car, I would have got the carbon brakes for sure.

I know somebody who did this upgrade on their F90. They haven't had to change anything beyond rotors/callipers and software.

If the car is totaled you can pretty much guarantee that the rotors have been damaged. the rotors are pretty delicate. So you're gonna need to find like two or three totaled ones with ceramics that's why I said good luck. Just save that money and put it towards the purchase of a new one that you order with or already has carbon ceramics

Always baffles me that people who don’t even own an M5 come on here just to stir the pot.

This was my experience with my 2018. I had my SA spec out replacing everything, and the total for parts was a little North of $6k for all 4 corners, and the labor to swap it all out was around $1k. For me, it was the brake dust. My OCD simply couldn't take it anymore. I ended up going with a set of the Porterfiled (ACG) carbon/kevlar pads. These did indeed reduce the amount of brake dust significantly for the first 1000 miles. Afterward, the brake dust was just as bad. I really wish that there was a ceramic pad option out there but I haven't been able to find one.

You did the carbon brake upgrade… awesome news. Guess it isn’t a pipe dream. Was certain I’ve seen guys doing it.

Did you buy the parts from your local dealer at that price??
