change from F10 M5 to F90 M5, impressions?
Hi all.
I've had my F10 M5 Comp Pack for two years now, Imola red very high spec car, only one in my country, which is why I bought it. Yesterday an opportunity presented itself to me on a full spec MY2021 M5 Competition pack press/launch vehicle, also Imola red, just like the original LCI Launch car BMW used. The car will be available in March next year as it still has some duties to perform at displays etc for my countrys BMW branch. I looked at the spec yesterday, and as expected it is pretty much fully loaded. So my question is, what experience have you guys in changing from the F10 to the F90? Pros and cons, is there any reason to hang on to the F10 a little longer or is the F90 overall just a much better package? Obviously the technology updates is a pro, 4wd also for normal driving, but was the F10 more "fun" to drive, less muted/refined, more brutal etc. I haven't driven an F90 M5 unfortunately, but I drove an M850i recently and that car was a lot more refined and comfortable. Guess I'm trying to figure out if I should take the plunge on the F90 and sell the F10, or if I should hang on to my quite rare F10 a little while longer. Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Noggie. I've never owned an F10 but did own an F12 M6 for around a year. I don't think it's a fair comparison though between coupe to saloon to be honest. You really need to drive and try it for yourself. There's lots of info online talking about the differences but that's no substitute for personal experience.
I will say that 4WD is transformative. You can boot this thing off the line with no loss of traction at all, whereas the M6 would often spin its back wheels in the same conditions. |

Hi Noggie,
I owned a fully loaded F10, and currently own a "pretty" loaded F90. I do prefer the F90 significantly over the F10. for a daily driver, the F90 is way more predictable, and controlled, while the F10 can become "risky" pretty quick. also, the technology on the F90 is superior in my opinion over the F10... the car sound also is way better in the F90. so, I would go for the F90. Now, this might be different if you were comparing to E60, as they are completely different cars, but F10 and F90 are sort of similar, but the F90 is the evolution for sure. I would have loved to get the B&O in the F90, but B&W is ok |

I have owned both and the refinement and upgraded technology of the LCI F90 M5 make this an easy choice: Go get yourself the new car!

The M850i with 525hp that I drove was no issues, borderline boring to be honest, but a true M, with an additional 100hp should make a difference. Quote:
I'm 44 so "comfort" is becoming a little more important Might be time to move to a car that is more "grown up".
