340i xdrive EDC/adaptive suspension lowering springs

I've been searching around various forums and groups regarding to suspension information. I have a 2018 340i xdrive with EDC/adaptive suspension and I would like to lower it. I would still like to maintain factory EDC without deleting this functionality. Based on things I have read before, H&R is a well known brand for lowering springs but they ride really still and will worsen the comfort. Other two popular brands are Eibach and Dinan. Dinan have lower springs as well as a "supplemental ride quality & handling kit" to refresh the suspension.

Just wanted to see if I can ride stock shocks/struts with Dinan lower springs (D100-0912) with their "kit" (D193-3201) while maintaining factory EDC and comfort.

I'm aware KW Suspension have coilovers that maintain EDC, but I am not looking to spend $3k on suspension for a daily haha

Glad you posted this as I have also been looking at lowering my 440xi with EDC.

I was curious to know if it was needed to tune the suspension using Dinan’s Shockware Software.

https://www.dinancars.com/products/s...arts/D906-3001

I know that coilovers would be best bet for preventing any sort of issues down the line. But would the Dinan springs, kit, and tune make the shocks last as long as OEM? Personally I am unsure. I hear nothing but good things about the Shockware tightening everything up. Making it feel more Dynamic around bends.

I suggest to review this thread to appreciate how adaptive suspension systems work.

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=942225

BMW Adaptive suspension isn't perfect and the thread mentions what is the most difficult algorithm to implement:

- Implementing a dynamic rapid compression / rebound response so the suspension quickly reacts to road imperfections. The opposite of a quick reaction: the suspension feels bouncy.

Predictably, BMW M Adaptive suspension does feel bouncy especially in Sport mode.

If you already sense that BMW M Adaptive suspension already feels bouncy, Dinan Shockware does not cure this condition. With Shockware, Comfort mode becomes Sport (stiffer) mode, and Sport becomes the new even stiffer mode.

I appreciate this. However with the Dinan Tuning for EDC. Including both the springs and the ride quality kit. Is it going to destroy my OEM shocks faster? Or would just springs and the kit be better? As I would like to avoid the $3,000 route.

Reasons to lower with springs over coils for me:
  1. Cost
  2. Maintaining EDC
  3. Performance
  4. Looks

However I do not want to put “extra” wear onto my OEM shocks. If they were to fail sooner with this route, I should have just sucked up the coilovers.

The Dinan Shockware says…
1. Revises BMW’s programming for sportier response from the EDC shocks.
2. Approximate changes: Dinan “normal” = old BMW “sport” / Dinan “sport” = stiffer than all stock settings.
3. Best results when used with a Dinan suspension (if available).

you need to do more homework...

Dinan bumpstops are E39 bumpstops marked up(in price) in Dinan packaging. buying the OEM BMW part is actually cheaper, in this case.

Dinan springs are stiff(30% more than OEM) and doesn't address reverse rake

the lower you go will wear the OEM dampers faster. shockware addresses this by basically electronically stiffening the damper.

if you are sold on Dinan's marketing literature, have at it. Dinan will be happy to take your money.

I have EDC, but not xdrive. I had H&R sports on the stock strut & shocks and they were OK, but the stock struts did weaken up. I switched to the Bilstein B6 EDC with Dinan springs and bump stops and I’m very pleased overall. Body roll has significantly reduced when cornering in sport mode and the ride quality is very smooth.

I have xdrive with EDC and went with Eibachs 05-22 and Bilsein B4 shocks/struts. I am happy with the ride.

After extensive reading and learning from the members here (thank you) I finally went with:

Eibach 06-22
OEM F80 bump stops front and rear

Here she is fresh from the shop ...

Was expecting more of the reverse rake but I think it turned out ok.
