What future maintenance costs on used 2020
Afternoon All,
I am looking at a used 2020 Comp with 27k miles. Carfax is clean, regular maintenance done. I love the new M5 and its performance but I discovered the depreciation rate of the M5 which has me a bit hesitant on pulling the trigger but that's another discussion for another day. Since the car has 27k miles and this will be my first used purchase, are there any expected pricey planned maintenance cost for these cars? Do I hit 30k and need 5k worth of service that's recommended by BMW? I have researched the online owner's manual and didn't see much listed items for service or significant maintenance intervals. I am about 80% on pulling the trigger to see expected costs. I understand that buying a luxury performance car comes with an expense but weighing future costs against crazy depreciation is making me second guess things. Thanks in advance...cf |

At or around 30K you will need to change spark plugs and ignition coils. Cost is around 1600-1800 unless you are handy.
Summer Tires will be often depending on how many miles at a cost of 1800-1900…. |

I’m not sure about planed or scheduled maintenance, but my 2018 base has needed the following:
Two new B&W speakers Both charge coolers and associated front cooler replaced Coolant expansion tank Two oil leaks Interior ambient lights replaced a section then back in the shop because the repair didn’t work correctly Leather dash bubble and waiting new dash from the motherland And a drivetrain malfunction warning that the charge coolers were supposed to fix but didn’t. In the shop again for the drivetrain issue. Happened first drive after I brought it home from the shop. I would go back to Audi if the RS6 Avant wasn’t so over priced. I saw a couple used ones still 30k over sticker |

I had an 18 M5 and drove it until 2022. Other than brake pads and rotors, it had a couple of check engine lights that were covered under warranty, and the rear spoiler came loose and they replaced it under warranty.
All hunky dory to me at that time. Shawn |

I would check to see if they had been done already. I mean 27k is close enough to 30. See if they'll throw it in to complete the purchase for piece of mind. Other than that. No. BMW doesn't really have major overhauls like say Ferrari etc.

Currently have a 2018 M5 that I purchased new in August of 2018. The spark plugs were changed last year (2021) when I brought the M5 in for the last free service. Just received a quote of $660 for this years service which includes a oil change, micro filter replacement and vehicle inspection. I believe the cost brake down was $258 for the oil change, $258 for the micro filter replacement, and two vehicle inspections to be completed. I am going to do the maintenance since I have sourced the micro filters at $114 and the oil change kit for $132 (updated cost 9/22/22).

Back in 2019 I changed out the stock steel pads at 4k miles to the Porterfield pads (front and rear) due to the excessive brake noise when stopping and brake dust. I did the removal and installation of the Porterfield brake pads.

very true and exactly why i dont waste my money on their rebranded plastic bottles that simply end up in the trash. haha hate the fact they even put 0w-30 in these cars. Screw efficiency and mpg, this is a TT V8 M car...i mean cmon already. care way more about engine protection and long term reliability.

I just bought some Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0W40 for the next change. What are you running and what is your climate? Winter for me can be as cold as -15F and summer as hot as 100F.

What is so special about these ignition coils that requires you to replace them every 30,000 miles? I've never had a vehicle or even heard of another vehicle that included that into scheduled maintenance. Cars go hundreds of thousands of miles on ignition coils. Are they integral with the spark plug?
