Very weird backseat stain?
Hello,
Does anyone have any idea where this stain came from? I brought her to the local dealer for tires and had to wait a week (thanks, Covid)! She sat at the dealer for a week and I ended up with this weird back seat stain!!! Lexol and other basic leather cleaners have not helped. Obviously, the dealer will deny this, but any clue what this could have been from and how to clean it off? Thanks! |

Looks like someone sat in it with grease on them. Should come out though, with a good leather cleaner. I would be very annoyed too and yes they would deny it. So would you really want them to clean it? I wouldn't.

It looks like the seat belt latch was sitting on the leather for awhile and transferred some of the black color to the leather.
As others have said a stronger leather cleaner and a brush would be your next option. If that doesn’t work a last resort would be VERY CAREFULLY try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, but be very careful since if you get too aggressive you’ll take the original seat color dye off.

In my experience, a steam cleaner can really help while battling with tough stains. It's very important not no get too close/stay on too long with the steam, as that could damage the leather
I would heat up the area with some steam, then use a good and strong leather cleaner with a brush to clean the stain. Be sure to protect the area afterwards with some leather conditioner |

Digging this thread up as this seems to be getting worse! And it’s transferring to the back portion when the seat is folded down! It seems as if something is bleeding up from underneath. Any ideas?

Since your original post, have you tried any of the things the others have been suggesting?
Also, does anyone/anything occupy that area of the seat? If not, then it’s weird and something appears to be coming up from underneath. Use Geist or Colourlock products.

I have tried Lexol and other various cleaners. They don't even make a dent in the stains. And the stains are definitely getting darker/worse.
I rarely use the back seats and never put things back there. The pattern of those dark spots and where they are leads me to believe something is bleeding up from below. Otherwise, how did it transfer to the back portion? I may also bring it by BMW sometime and have them look, because this is not from anything I've done as the back seats are RARELY used for passengers or items. FS |

It’s really easy to get that seat cushion up and out. Once out and removed from the car, you’ll be able to inspect under the leather to see what may be going on.
A long time ago, I came across something similar on an E30 BMW that my brother had in college. Turned out to be black mold - but it was an old car to begin with.

You're not alone. This did not happen on the 18' .. no lifestyle changes in my 21' ... so ...very .. odd.
NOTHING touches the stain (as in products to try and remove them). |
