Anyone planning to keep their F90 long term? Just got an M5C. Would love to keep it for as long as I can. My daily driver has been a 2015 Tahoe, currently with 94k miles.
I didn't trade in the Tahoe because with a family of five, it has too much utility to me for what I'll get for it on trade. And I have a 2018 GT3 with a manual (which I rarely have time to track), so I'm not going to get an itch for a Porsche. I can see there's a lot of short term lease folks on the board but I'm hoping to go the distance, 200k miles and upwards territory with careful maintenance. Words of wisdom? Unrealistic?

I find no fault in my F90 either. So far a year in I feel like it might be a keeper too! Along with my E39 M5!

Man, I HOPE to keep my F90 long-term. I have committed to it. I do love it, and believe it has everything in a car I could ever want. Of course, we all get the new car itch—some people on this board probably more than others—but I really want to go the distance with it!

I have a 2018, currently have 30,000 miles, no issues (since complete rebuild LMOA), one headliner rattle but not going to rip out interior to find it. My lease is over in May, but have planned on keeping it. Of course I will buy the longest warrantee they will sell me. New summer tires are sitting in the garage awaiting mounting this winter. I have all the fixings for DIY oil service. Only question I have is will I add some kind of under body protection for the oil cooler. I was hoping someone would have a better aftermarket solution than the one commonly used. I found the openings in that one to still be far too large. Some have made their own and used heavy wire mesh. That sounds like a better solution.
Has anyone used those aftermarket warrantees? The one you see advertised where they will cover any car up to 150,000 miles??????? That is interesting. Mike

I usually keep mine 6 to 10 months and always find a reason why i want to sell. 6 months in and I still cant fault it, other than a bit of road noise but i always find that, which i will address at some point. Keeper i hope.

I’m planning on keeping my ‘18 for at least 7 total years (warranty length through Geico). It’s a glorious daily for my family of 4. I have an E39 M5 as my weekend car.

I feel the differences between LCI and pre-LCI are cosmetic. If I was in a different place in life, I would have gotten a 2018 and been happy. Putting that aside, the meaningful variables for long term ownership mentioned above are:
1. Coolant level 2. Fuel pump 3. Extended warranty 4. Oil cooler cover 5. Proper tires The two things I'd add are: 6. Paint protection/Expel 7. Winter wheels I have to learn about #1, #2 and #4. I don't know anything about those. I got an extended warranty through BMW to cover me up to 75k miles (may not have been the best value, but I did it) and I'm getting #6 taken care of for the entire exterior. #7: winter tires on the original wheels or dedicated wheels for winter tires? Thanks, all!

Mine is hopefully a keeper....
Hello! I purchased mine in 2018 and did ED, all with the inclination of keeping the M5 for a longer time. I purchased the extended warranty right out of the gate for 5 years 100k Miles. I have had some warranty issues with Low and High pressure fuel pumps as well as a leak in the front charged air unit, which resulted in a total replacement. That does give me pause to reflect a bit, but i have to say that i am currently investigating how to extend the warranty to 7 years, as I don't think I will hit 100k miles in that time frame.
I absolutely love the M5, and I cant think of a car I would rather own in its place, as of yet. Of course, there are always wants and desires, and I am constantly looking at other cars, because it is what we do as auto enthusiasts. Ultimately, I will watch the warranty costs and how they accrue as well as keep myself apprised of what other M5 users are going through, one of the huge perks of being on this site. If it looks like this is going to take $5k per year at least in associated costs outside of warranty, then it might be over when the warranty is over, but if it is manageable, and within range of what my expectations are, then I would love for this car to be in the stable for a few years. For the record, I have left this car completely stock with the intention that doing so lengthens the life, as opposed to modifications that could potentially render a warranty or extended warranty useless. I am happy with the sound, although a different sound is nice, but I have felt that this is just a "police alert mechanism." I have taken plenty of time to make this an "under the radar" fun driver, so that I can travel in a fun way without having tickets out the rear end. I really am hoping for a resilient vehicle within these parameters and we will see if it is all for nought. It really is a great car, and while it could be quicker, faster, louder, etc., I am very happy with it being a better car performance-wise, than almost everything on the road in its stock configuration. |

Since you're in NY, try putting some gummipfledge on the sunroof gasket. I have what I thought was a creaking in the roof, sounded like it was coming from above the rear passenger seat with flex in curves. Narrowed it down to the sunroof gasket creaking. |

i know there is some allure for some owners who always "want to keep it forver" but i see no point in having these cars out of warranty. It just wont ever make sense. My father had both headlight getting some condensation the other day. Had to get replaced. 10k, before labor. Who really wants to go thru this? No matter how much you love a car, it's best to just move on sometimes. And no thi s isn't a dig at the f90, i'm just saying, these cars can make you empty your wallet, fast.

Really there is no way to tell what will happen with a car. You can have a car and drive it for 200k miles even 1M miles, but you can count on there being some problems. Parts on cars will fail at some point. Seals will eventually fail. The question is will the cost of maintaining the car exceed what you are willing to pay. Despite what some here may say, no one knows the answer to this question. I would check the history these cars to identify if there are any systemic issues, even check the F10 for issues and how they are resolved. The F10 goes back to 2012 or 2013 and people do still own the cars. What types of problems have they experienced? There are some original owners of these cars. This is just my opinion, but I would avoid any tunes or modifications to the drive train.

I have been leasing since 2003 and made the decision to find a car I can enjoy driving for many years with styling/lines that will not look dated (in a bad way) and break the cycle of always having a car payment Last edited by Ryno 27; 12-11-2020 at 04:49 PM.. |

While that 15-30 $ charge is a waste while the car is still under the factory warranty, it is still the least expensive way to get an extended warranty for 7 years! |
