M1 - Sport for all settings. Automatic D2
M2 - Sport Plus on everything but steering, which I set to sport. Automatic D3, but often times I switch to Manual mode S3. Once the car is warmed up, I drive in M1 mode most of the time. |

M1 is sport plus everything. DSC off, AWD on. S3. Basically this one I simply push 2x and ready for launch control at moments notice.
M2 is sport plus everything also except for steering is in sport (middle setting). But DSC on and D2. This mode is my go to driving set up probably 80% if the time. Gives me ample sportiness around town or if want to have some fun on the highway, more of a highway setting for me where steering isn’t as loose feeling but suspension is stiff, throttle response good, traction control on, quicker kick down and shifts but doesn’t hold the gears as long as D3. The default when I turn car on is what I drive in if I’m tired or just wanting to be little more quiet cruising, or just normal drive. **I’m curious to know how many have one button set for launch control?!** I always have cracked up at the reviewers and people who say it’s such a pain to go through and set all the settings to turn on launch control. If you set one of the m buttons as the launch control settings it’s one button and 2x pushes and it’s on. No need to go in to I drive or anything else. Quite simple actually. But I do admit it would be easy to not realize you can do that. |

M1 — Sport+ engine and transmission, Sport steering since LCI no longer offers sports plus, DSC on, MDM off, 4WD on, D3. Use this about 90 to 95% of the time.
M2 — Sport everything, DSC on, MDM off, 4WD on, D2. Use this about 5 percent of the time on the very few occasions M1 gets exhausting. It’s still snappy and responsive while being a little bit smoother than my M1 settings. Everything in efficient/comfort/D1 about 1% of the time for very specific reasons. I drive it how it was meant to be driven, while still trying to stay safe.

Hmm I really have quite conservative sets ups...after 40k miles I've settled for:
Always in manual gearbox 3 M1 Sports+/Comfort/Comfort M2 Sports+/Sports+/Comfort Have to have it in M1 most of the time as the roads here are terribly uneven. M2 if the roads are good. Comfort steering has the most responsive feel - plus keeping the same setting for steering has a slight advantage of better muscle memory. Though do use Sport steering for long motorway/freeway journeys as it better tracks in a straight line. Never even used Launch! Last edited by SenorFunkyPants; 06-28-2023 at 04:27 AM.. |

Am I correct to generally assume:
Sport + chassis with Sport steering is best for “canyon carving” insofar as this car is capable of course? Engine is obvious but I’m honestly not entirely sure the applications and major differences in the steering and chassis options? Also, does MDM basically keep the 4th but but some additional bias to rear to add a little slippage? Thanks in advance for the education! |

I press one of the buttons almost every intersection:
Engine/Chassis/Steering: M1: Sport/Comfort/Sport/S2 M2: Sport+/Sport/Sport/S3 Most standing starts I'm in M2. At the speed limit in traffic back to defaults. Coming up to a light M1 or M2 depending on whether I want the burbles and/or plan to try and peg the G meter under braking or just go for 0.8g. And most of the time when in a manual mode I press the m button to go back to defaults and have it upshift for me so I don't need to click the paddle 5 times or take my hand off the wheel to move the shifter or hold the paddle for 5 seconds. If I'm going for a fun ride then M2 the whole time. And sometimes I just go into the setup menu and just turn the engine up to sport/sport+ to get more sounds. I have yet to use MDM or 4WD sport. I have felt where DSC is a bit intrusive when it intervenes so after I'm more familiar with the car I might consider MDM for M2. Turning the stability system all the way off is just asking for it. Stabilitrack (GM's DSC) saved my ass many times in my 2000 STS and 2004 CTS-V when I was young and dumb. It rarely came on in my 09 CTS-V partly because it was a better car, and partly because I matured a little. |

The steering is plenty heavy as it is. I've had multiple instructors at both Thermal and South Carolina tell me changing the wheel to anything different than Comfort will just fatigue your arms quicker. I would agree.
As for DSC vs MDM, I like the predictability of DSC. When it's on, there's virtually no slide and just pure traction. When it's turned off, it's predictably slippery. MDM is sort of a middle ground that isn't really great at either, so I find myself never using it. M1 - Sport+ / Comfort / Comfort / D2 / DSC On <-- this is the 95% daily driver mode for me (I nudge the shifter over often to get into S3) M2 - Sport+ / Comfort / Comfort / D3 / DSC Off <-- this allows for quickly getting into launch control mode OR into a "drift" mode (nudging the shifter over will get me into S3)

Thank you for sharing!
My M1 is: Sport Comfort Comfort D2 DSC ON Start/Stop OFF Sound Control OFF sort of a stealth dynamic mode (family friendly, muffled exhaust) M2: Sport Comfort Comfort D3 DSC ON Start/Stop OFF Sound Control ON (This gives a nice exhaust rumble and sportier feel) If S1-S3 are manual modes, what's the difference when setting to S2 or S3? |
