2021 M5 CS Warm Driver Seat
Fellow M5 owners: I've got a '21 CP (recent purchase/second owner) with 13k miles on it. Technical question, but has anyone ever experienced the driver's seat become somewhat warm after a few minutes and remain that way? The heated seat function is definitely off. I've also checked the i-Drive automatic climate settings and everything is off. When I put my hand on the passenger's seat to compare, the leather is normal temp. Wondering maybe if something under the seat is generating heat (I do not see anything). The entire seat feels warm so thinking maybe it's a sensor issue or heating coils malfunctioning in the seat even though the car says everything is off. Car is still under warranty so I plan to have it looked at soon by the local dealer. Thanks in advance.

Ha. Well, that would be a different check up! This is something outside of human bodily functions. You can actually feel the seat warming up slightly. I've owned a bunch of M cars and this is the first time I've experienced this.

I’ve noticed that mine feels warm as well. But it’s the WHOLE seat, not just the heated function.
But mine is used mostly on track so we tend to get awful warm doing that. I dunno. Maybe the seat foam absorbs body heat? Shawn |

Shawn, yes, I'm feeling the same. I should have been more clear, but I agree with you, pretty much the whole seat is warm. You'd swear it's a heat source of some kind that's causing it, but other than the body, I don't see anything out of order. Thanks for the feedback.

I can't help you with your question, I have a CS as well, and never noticed the seat getting hot. Maybe it does, but it doesn't bother me if so.
I just wanted to chime in and say are you sure the car is a '21? The CS didn't start production until summer of '21 IIRC, meaning they should all be '22 models. Edmunds lists it as a '22 only as well. https://www.edmunds.com/bmw/m5-cs/ |

Hmm...Yes, it has "CS" badging all over the place on the car. I just checked the VIN online and it also says "Comp Pkg". Are you guys talking about the CP with carbon fiber seats? If so, mine is not that model.

@ Nikita - sent you a PM.
For the rest of the fellas out there, no significant updates to this story. BMW never discovered what the root cause of the heat source was in the driver's seat. They tried everything and no smoking gun. I've learned to live with it...feels good this time of year. And in case you're wondering, the passenger seat does not get warm on its own, only the driver's seat. Always some German weirdness in nearly every BMW I've owned. Perhaps this was only half complete on the assembly line at 5 pm on a Friday and picked up Monday morning. Now let's see...where were we... Last edited by zman21; 12-13-2023 at 06:19 PM.. |

Agree. Yes, still under warranty. The mechanic used a temperature gun and verified the seat did become a little warm after about 3-5 minutes of start-up. I have an appointment at the dealer next week for something else. I'll have them re-engage on this and advise if I learn something. Thx, gents.
