Any chance they will bring back European Delivery?

I think they decided to get rid of European delivery before COVID. It just kind of coincided. It sounds awesome but I think was not overly popular IIRC.

Very unfortunate. It's important to note that European Delivery was only available for vehicles built in Europe.

Ignoring Covid, I would have opted for it when I ordered my F90 in early 2021.

I don't have high hopes that the program will return, BMW doesn't go quite as far to cater to true enthusiasts as they used to. Mercedes and Audi have also eliminated their ED programs. The last game in town in Porsche. If it were realistic to expect to get an allocation for a GT3 Touring without ADM I would absolutely take delivery in Germany.

Probably not. There wasn't enough demand and the logistics and cost for them were too high to keep staff on hand specifically for it. There's talk with the cca wanting to staff european delivery so it might turn into like a private event a few times a year but that's about it.

European Delivery always seems like a better idea in theory than in practice. While I would love to have a nice fast car to drive on the autobahn you can't really let loose until you crank out 1200 miles of break-in. Then you need to find an unrestricted section (or not if you don't mind the ticket) and hope there isn't annoying traffic. The rest of the time you are driving your fancy new car on roads and areas you don't know, watching out for hazards you can't predict (potholes, steep or tight fits, parking garages, narrow roads, cobblestone roads, etc).

Then when you are done you have a long wait until the car meets you back in the US.

I have driven a lot over there including 4 trips where on each one we did 2000+ miles in 2 weeks. I have never turned in a rental car in a condition I would be happy for my M5 to be in. Not worth it for the few times you can hit your top speed. My record was 133.5mph sustained in an Audi A4 TDI Wagon. After a few hours you are quite exhausted. I imagine that speed in the M5 wouldn't feel like much of anything.

It's too bad Europe which is small and you can cross in a few hours has higher speed limits than here where it takes days to cross. Sigh. But with the way things are going limits will not go up. We are lucky we got to 70mps in NC. And even Germany is running out of unrestricted sections.

We have 85mph limits in Texas, which means closer to 95-100mph. Still take days to cross Texas at those speeds.

If by days you mean a couple of hours then you're correct lol... TX is only 800 miles wide and that's talking El paso to like the eastern tip. It's only a 2 day trip to cover west to east coast of the usa.

I hope they bring it back!

Luckily did an ED with my F90 in May of 2019.

Pretty nice cruising the autobahn at 150mph - solid as a ROCK!

ED was the absolute best program. Its a damn shame they discontinued it for U.S. bound cars. You can still pick up a car at the welt if youre in the EU. I did ED 4 separate times. First time, I went with a buddy. 2nd time i took my wife, 3rd and 4th time each of my 2 boys. Drove to several different countries. Crushed the autobahn. Didnt care about break in. Did it with all 4 cars, never an issue with the cars after the fact. I dont have enough positive things to say about it. I have so many stories, I couldnt possibly type on my keyboard that much.

BMW is in the middle of reducing costs. Sadly, programs such as European Delivery were the first to be eliminated.

I did the same with my F90. Took delivery the day before my birthday in early May of ‘19. Best birthday present ever. Two hours after picking it up I was chasing a 911 up the A3 at 155mph.

Since ED is no longer available, the only regret I have is selling my M5.
