After 2000 km, the initial disappointment of a muted exhaust has changed into "it has probably done an adaption", as the sound is pretty much exactly the same as it was before (pre-OPF and M Sport exhaust). The Sport Plus does have a slightly sharper pop and bangs, whereas it was more of a "rolling thunder" before, but will happily accept this and it has not diminished my enjoyment of this epic car.

I also don't want a software update, because I don't want to lose the pops and bangs. I had an update a while ago, that actually enhanced all that, so i don't want to lose it. I have until June, till I get into my Comp.

CC my answer from another thread:
Some info they told me (EU dealership): 1)"Fuel tank ventilation" recall is done due to possible vapors in fuel tank that could lead to stop pumping the fuel and something with that 02 sensors ... they have no closer info from BMW but they confirmed some other owners complained about losing the sound after the recall 2) on the other hand, they did not have any complaints from owners who haven't done this "recall" that there were problems with pumping the fuel or other malfunctions etc. 3) If you have your car tuned via ECU, it will be lost, since this recall is made via the ECU programming 4) recall is not mandatory, warranty won't be void if I refuse this modification 5) dealership has money from BMW if they do this recall upgrade on your car |

I had the recall done to my car today, and I have to say that I was really anxious about the sound being muted.
All I can say is that the pops and burbles seems to be louder! I am going to make another sound vidéo to compare it with the one I've made and posted before the recall was done. |

Picked up mine from the dealership this morning. No issues with exhaust sound.
Also, I noticed that the 2WD vs 4WD display in the gauge cluster has now been fixed and that there is an additional app available, the M Lap Timer. |

I had mine in for a scheduled oil change and the recall. I have not noticed any changes in the car at all. They also did the air filters and spark plugs!!!
Some of the settings were lost, but most of them were still available including the M1 and M2 settings. |

Did anyone have to leave their vehicle overnight for the tank vent recall update?
I dropped it off this morning (I haven't been driving it as lockdown measures remain in full effect in Canada) and the dealership is saying it's likely to need an overnight stay to complete it. Sounds like others had this AND regular service completed in a day... |

CC My reply from the other thread
I had an issue with one of the coolant bottles on the F90. The seam of the bottle had failed and it was like there was a pinhole shooting coolant everywhere. BMW replaced this under warranty. Three weeks later I get a drivetrain message and the car goes into limp mode. Recovery come out and tell me they can't do anything at the roadside and the car goes into the dealer. Dealer calls me the next day to tell me that the cap on the BRAND NEW bottle they had replaced under warranty had failed and cylinders 5 - 8 had coolant all over them. Dealer tells me it will be 4 new coiles, 4 new injectors and 4 new spark plugs under warranty. I tell dealer I do not want the software update and they ask me why. I explain the situation and tell them I do not want the exhaust note to change. Dealer tells me he hears this on a regular basis from F90 owners and assures me the software update will not change the exhaust note. He tells me it is if the recall for the fuel tank vent issue is done the exhaust note will change. He promises me he will only do the software update and not the recall. I get the car back and there is no issue with the exhaust. The point of me telling you this: It's the recall that results in a muted exhaust tone. |

Ok, so I put a few hundred miles on her. The pops are still less, but they are definitely louder. I really have to try to make it pop now, where as before it didn’t take much effort to make some noise. The car still feels off, and is definitely slower. Also, the trans is not adapting the way I would’ve hoped. The 2 big issues I’m having is she does not pull like a freight train anymore. The car feels more like a m550i to me. Just not as sharp and very subdued compared to before. The other big issue I’m having is shifting. In sport plus and in S3 the car bogs. Floor it in 1st and go to shift in to 2nd and the car nose dives like it hit the rev limiter. Same with 2nd to 3rd.
In two wheel drive I can barely get it to break loose. Floor it in 1st, the tires spin from 2k rpm to 3k and then it bogs and hooks up. Before, half throttle in 2wd and the tires spin like crazy. The car has 3700 miles on it. It was perfectly fine when I brought in to the dealer, but when I picked it up it now drives like a mess. It really hasn’t changed after putting 350miles on her since last Thursday. I believe something might be wrong and I have to return to the dealer, but there is no cel. Don’t know what they could do about it, so I’m at a loss. Last edited by Njbmw17; 07-19-2021 at 07:31 AM.. |

Not to mention you can make the car pop bang like crazy with a tune. Burbles are all computer controlled anyways and with a tune you can have complete instant switching of how many pops you want. Add in a power tune and all your gripes are somewhat solved. But yea your experience does seem very strange. |
