How long have people seen their cars sit in "awaiting carrier assignment"?

my car went through the production process quickly but was in "quality check" for a little over a week and has been in "awaiting carrier assignment" for almost 3 weeks now.

I know I shouldn't complain, my overall wait time hasn't been much at all. my dealer already had 2 M5's ordered and available and I was able to get one and make changes the week before it went into production.

My biggest issue, besides just wanting the car, is that I already sold the dealer my X5M so I'm stuck driving my daughter's Jeep for a while.

My carrier assignment took 4 days and 2 days to reach Port where it sat for 16 days before being loaded on a ship.

My car has been at "awaiting carrier assignment" for about a week and a half now.

I got thru that stage in less than a day - but I've been at the port now for about 8 days. My CA advised it's taking 3-4 weeks to get on a boat right now. (last year I went from the factory to a boat in about a week, only to then sit on the US side for 30 days).

Hopefully my car will be on a boat by next week then... hoping to take delivery before Thanksgiving.

My M440cv was at that point for 84 days. Very frustrating, but I ended up walking from the car for other reasons....

I'm not sure if things have stabilized for deliveries that normally go on boats to the East Coast, but there was a unique shipping situation last month. Builds finishing in Sept/Oct were not going to be shipped until Jan due to a large backlog and unavailability of shipping to the east coast. So BMW sent ~2100 cars first to Spain and offloaded them to another boat headed to the West Coast Hueneme port. The boat arrived last week on Sunday and they are still processing them at the VPC as of yesterday.

I've been following the situation because the boat my car is on landed at that port just a few days later and I am expecting my VPC processing to be a bit delayed.

There are boats going to the East Coast again but I suspect there still may be a bit of catching up still.

Are you positive that they are being processed at the VPC? The VPCs for the east coast vehicles are in Baltimore and Brunswick. I would be thrilled if they were at the VPC already but I'm afraid they're still at the port in Oxnard. And there's no logical explanation for that other than yet another major screwup by BMW.

Mine was on the MSC Immacolata which docked last Thursday in Brunswick. Genius says it's still processing but I was assigned an 11/22 PCD pickup date yesterday.

Any port installed options? That's pretty good - last year this time it took me I think almost 40 days from the time it rolled off the boat until I got my PCD date.

Also - I thought the PCD cars came off in Charleston?

No port installed options. I thought they came off in Charleston too but it definitely was Brunswick.

That was my only date. Letter to my dealer said that 11/22 is the only date and if I can't make it, they will ship car to dealer.

No, I'd probably go off what you were told by your dealer from his rep... It's one big screwed up scenario, that's for sure.

My car now shows Dispatched From Factory and is on it's way to the port. Even though it is passed the 'Awaiting Carrier Assignment' phase, does that mean that it could still wait quite a while before actually getting on a ship? Also, are the 'port installed options' done in Germany or a US port when it arrives?

Not entirely sure about the first part of your question, but port installed options are usually done at the VPC stateside.

They're supposed to, some for whatever reason do get unloaded at brunswick (maybe it's to do with some of the options? Maybe pcd got added after the ship was decided? I mean shipping is crazy rn, and if you check with msc (the ship he was on) they don't even have scheduled service to burnswick and I've never heard of bmw shipping with msc before either so yeah...

Awaiting carrier assignment is waiting for the train to the port, once it gets to port it'll be at port and could wait a few days to a few months for a boat from what I've seen and experienced personally. And yes alp accessories are fitted at the vpc in the usa. (Eat coast has nj, Baltimore x2 while they're moving things around, Charleston for pcd, and brunswick.)

My M550i has been stuck "awaiting carrier assignment" for almost two months now. Additionally annoying is the fact that cars built after mine have been shipped and even delivered to customers in the U.S.

My car is showing 'At Port'. I know that it is waiting on a boat assignment, but after it goes into 'Transit', how long does it usually take to get to the US border? Also, when it hits the US port, will it go back to 'In Port' status? I'm just wondering how to track it once it hits a US port.

It takes 10-15 days to cross the Atlantic assuming you’re coming to the east coast. Yes it reverts back to at port. Your ca can help you track it.
For reference mine was offloaded 11/29 and included a number of port installed options. It was delivered to the dealer on 12/09. I’m picking it up today. This was at port of nj so seems cars are moving pretty quickly once they get off the boat. Wasn’t the case last year.

Hope you get your car soon!

Well, it finally happened! My car is on a vessel (the Tokyo Car) and heading to NY/NJ. Anticipated arrival is 1/12/23 and I assume it will be at the VPC for a week or so while the splitter and pro spoiler are installed. So, in reality I should have it in another 3-4 weeks.

Good thing I already bought snow tires... it doesn't look like I'll be putting any miles on the summers until April.
