LCI F90 owners, when you plug a USB device that you know works with your car, plugged into the center console USB-C plug (not the cup holder USB-A) does it read it as a USB device you can play music from and list it as an audio source when you press the media button? In my pre-LCI, when I plugged the device into the center console (USB-A in that car), it did exactly what I'm asking about.

We've discussed some ancillary issues in another thread about device reading, using OEM instead of aftermarket cables, etc., but nothing there answers this question for me.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I have thousands of songs on a USB drive I access using the port in the center arm rest compartment. However I have not figured out how to get the album art work / covers to show.

Thank you so much! I am working on a solution for myself, and I will let you know when I figure out the album art.

The strange thing is the cover art shows on three of the albums but not all the others in iDrive. I need determine what is different between the one that show and those that do not. I loaded all the music from CD's into iTunes. I then transferred the files to the USB. Almost all of the cover art is showing in iTunes BTW.

It's possible that since you pulled the songs from CDs, then into iTunes, iTunes did not load all of the album cover art because it couldn't match up songs of yours to its database which matches them up (when there is a match). This is possible even when the cover art shows in iTunes. Were they factory CDs or burned CDs? Another possibility is that certain CDs had the album artwork integrated, while others did not from the source (the CD).

Interesting, mine (2019 base) only had the USB A port and a 12 volt plug. I think it was foolish to remove the 12 volt from the LCI, forcing you to charge at significantly lower wattage than the 45 watts I was pulling from there before.

All are factory CDs. Do you have a solution for your theory?

Not yet, working on isolating the problem by getting helpful responses like yours, here on the forum and elsewhere. Knowing that they're factory CDs helps me out a lot. Admittedly, it does make for more shaky ground for my theory. Waiting on a few shipments of various adapters and cables to arrive. Once it all does, I hope to have a solution and will post back here when I do!

If you'd like to help me work towards a solution, here's two data points that would really help! Are you using a simple USB flash drive with a type C male plug? And is there any chance that the CDs that you see album artwork for work are relatively newer than the ones that don't display album art? I meant for example CDs from the 90s vs. ones acquired in say, the last 10 years? Some newer CDs are enhanced, and have the album art coded into the disc, and when they do, I am thinking that iTunes doesn't attempt to match the songs to artwork using its database, and just imports it from the disc directly. But when it doesn't see artwork, it attempts to match them up to the database (albeit, sometimes failing to do so).

Thanks again! Much appreciated!

Oh I Didn't k know they got rid of the 12v. But kept it as a usb-a?! Bunkers. But ya mines a '20. Usb C in the arm and in the back seat. Usb A and 12v at the cup holders.

Download Mp3tag. This will allow you to attach the artwork to the music files. Access the songs on your usb using Mp3tag. Sign up for Discogs used by this program which is free. It will find the artwork and add to file. I used artwork size around 600 x 600 or less. Somewhere I saw artwork should be 550 x 550 max, but 600 works for me. I have not tried the larger files. It is a manual process so if you have a lot of files it will take a while.

More questions let me know. I only used it today and it works for all the songs. I am not an expert using the Mp3tag software.
