It's worth having, even if you don't plan on pushing it too hard. It only takes another person to over estimate their ability and you can find yourself in the wrong place with a bent car.
Most track insurance that I know of is agreed value based anyway, so there's no liability coverage, but it will cover repairing your car or replacing it. |

I wouldn't track my car without it.
Now I just need to get to the point that I'm comfortable tracking the car with it. I think I just need a track-beater. I love this car too much to ding her up.

has anyone had to use the track ins. and what was the outcome?
we should have a good quality ins. carrier for tracking. should we stick with our personal policy with an HPDE allowance or go with the lockton affinty ins. |

i looked into k&k and was told coverage was between 3-4% of the value of your car with a 1500 minimum per year. does this sound reasonable? also can you just use that hpde thing every time you go to the track as long as you dont have a claim? thats what i got from the site. didnt see pricing on that type of coverage.

There is detailed discussion on this here:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=188461&page=2 If you will participate in 7-10 HPDEs a year, WSIB will sell you an annual policy. Kraig Hopkins is the director of that program there. http://www.wsibinsurance.com/de/index.html Underwriter is Hiscox, a syndicate at Lloyd's. http://www.hiscox.com/ViewCMSPage.as...a-63d56528ff14 For 1-10 HPDE events per year (events with multiple days still count as a single event), the premium is 3.5% of the agreed upon value. For 10-15 HPDE events, it is 4.0%. Events that involve timed activities are NOT covered, but they have a special product that covers racing and time trials. That supposed to be more expensive though, but I don't have much info on that. I heard that there are a few companies that sell liability coverage on the track, but I think that is also meant for racing.

okay this policy through k&k was also going to lloyds so must be the same thing. most times in a street incident with regular insurance if they total your car it is no longer yours. with this type of coverage i was told the car would still be mine so any salvageable part read engine hopefully would be able to be sold to recover some cost as well?

The only thing you can do is read your policy documents - that's your contract with the insurance company for what they will cover and what they won't cover. Always assume that they don't cover something unless it mentions they do.
In GA they have an exclusion that includes racing services, which means they won't pay out for an incident even at a HPDE. However, unless they have asked you whether you participate in racing or driving schools when issuing the policy then you should be on good ground if they try and get funny about your road cover even though you took out separate, independent coverage for the event. The reason for that is that if they haven't asked you about it before quoting and issuing the original road policy then you haven't lied or mislead them as to the risk they were entering into and it also shouldn't be a factor in their rating calculations. There have been stories about people having issues with their normal policy as a result of inquiring about HPDE and track coverage, but you should be able to report the company for any of that sort of behaviour if they didn't require you to disclose that sort of activity before they issued the policy. I've always worked with the assumption that I'm not covered and require additional coverage from another specialist company for the track time. I've even had a claim when I was in the UK and it was absolutely no hassle to get everything repaired at the shop I chose. At tracks in the UK the liability rule was basically that you were responsible for yourself and that there was no liability between one driver and another. I guess you could consider this as everyone was at fault or no one. I don't know if that is different in the US where it's generally easier to get a lawyer and sue someone! |
