Trunk port DIY?

Has anyone fabricated a port from the trunk into the interior cabin as part of a sound system upgrade. I’m looking to add an aftermarket subwoofer in the and have read the trunk is pretty well insulated. I’m not looking for duel 12s in a chest size box with 1000w amp to over come this issue as mentioned in other threads. Just looking for more crisp punch than B&W provides.

I'm debating letting some air come in from behind the seats. My guy will build a custom low profile box and mount it to the the rear deck in the trunk.

You need to do some cutouts behind the seats or constantly have the seats down to have anything in the trunk sound good.

The seat down option is a no-go for me. I would like to put two 4” ports in the “panel” behind the armrest. However I’m reluctant to due so unless someone has done this for two reasons. 1) I don’t want to start cutting to find out this isn’t possible. 2) The sound doesn’t improve over a “non-ported” configuration with the speaker amp setup I’m installing.

I'm with you in both regards for the most part. However, that is why I'm asking if anyone has installed ports (example shown in the pic). I've found speaker cabinet ports that are 4 or 6 inches in diameter at various tube lengths that would reach the other side of the seat back into the trunk. Just don't know what material/structure is within the seat back that might make this more trouble/risky than its worth.

Got a quote from an audio shop to build a custom box w/"ski whole" port for a single 12" subwoofer, 500w amp and LoC. $3400.00.... I passed.

Any idea how to buy just the center section of a seat?

I'm assuming I'd have to find a trashed 5er (in Caramel) and buy it out as a part out?

I'm asking because I'd like to basically hollow out that part, perforate the leather, set the sub behind it and face it forward.

What color is your interior?

If this were in Caramel I'd buy it myself and swap the parts out so I can make my own breathable passthrough.
