F90 is just a development code. It has nothing to do with the chassis, body platform or engine.

And 2 pages of arguing chassis nomenclature...
I'm more interested rather that these game developers are given design information before anyone else it would seem. Is it possible that one of these guys recently attended that exclusive M5 unveiling last weekend? I think it's interesting that they would be trusted to keep this stuff tight lipped, or eyes in this case? Anyway, just curious how need for speed knows what it will look like. |

This is a pre-release render. The final version will be more accurate when the game is released in November and we have a better idea what the actual car will look like. Once the game is released the final rendering is pretty accurate.

So it appears as though the primary wheel design of this new M will indeed be those 7 double spoke wheels previously seen on spyshots and official camouflaged photos and videos. Not the usual 5 double spoke wheels that all M models have been carrying in different variations over the past years. Maybe in order to keep the 5 spoke sportier design for the M8 which isn't that far ahead in time, so as to set the M8 further apart from the M5 as not being just a new M6...

Correct, F90 has been in development for a long time and development codes are assigned to projects when they begin. They are unrelated to any marketing considerations since they're only really meant for internal use.

Looks to have the M6-type carbon fiber roof, also. Or was that already confirmed?

No, it has nothing to do with the engine. The upcoming X3 M will be named F97 even if the normal X3 will be the G01.
BMW just reserved the F80-99 for M models.

BMW has done this many times already in the past to various models. Most M5 guys lease anyways so really doesn't matter.

I get that, but the logic behind their decisions to come up with these new codes wouldn't be necessary if they weren't carrying over old engines. There's a pattern here and that's why I'm throwing out this theory since this is the first time they have not been congruent with the code names. E39 m5, E60 M5, F10 M5, all had unique new engines. G30 carrying over the same engine? Bam! F90 lol. Patterns!!!!!!!!
