Sometimes my car bucks when starting out in first gear and I am slow to take my foot off the clutch. When I'm quick off the clutch pedal it does not occur. I'm pretty sure it's the clutch interlock switch. I had a Subaru that did the same thing and I could make it happen any time I was inclined just by being slow off the clutch.
Otherwise, it's very smooth and easy shifting. |

Remove the transmission skid plate, there's about 6 8mm screws. And the drive shaft is there, very accessible. turn it by hand, and make sure the transfer case and front diff are not turning. If the shaft is turning, you have a loose. >And if you're RWD, might be the rear drive shaft bearing or gibo or ujoint. Ebay is your friend. When you type bmw drive shaft, those items are popping up. Anyway, it took about 4 hours to search on that topic. Common problem, lot of part available, the only issue is to find the one at a good price. Goes from 30$ (salvage yard) to 1000+ $ (new) |

did the front drive shaft u joints. They were pretty shot ! loose loose loose.
I removed the front drive shaft, and then take it for a spin rwd. Kicks were from the drive shaft ujoint for sure. Note that the OEM BMW drive shaft is NOT serviceable. Fortunately the last owner replace the drive shaft with a jobber one. Ujoints are 7$ each. And they probably last the same or longer than the OEM, since they got a port for a grease gun. |

Interesting development.
Bucking is noticeably reduced after my 3 stage intake install and 330i flash. I think it has something to do with bmw throttle response software/electronics. I also flashed the 330i tune before installing the intake and pedal response improved. Don’t quite remember if the bucking went away tho. |
