SA Comparison M5 vs E63S vs Pam Turbo S vs CTS-V
SA normally doesn't post acceleration figure past 200km and they did not this time either so we don't know if the AMG will be faster after 200km but the M5 is both the fastest accelerating car and quickest around the track in this test.
Personally I think there will be a back and forth result in regarding to acceleration tests by different magazines but I'm fairly confident that in track testing the M5 should come out on top every time, especially with its 100kg+ (less) weight advantage. For the ring time we will need to wait for SA's supertest. Note: M5 in this test also wears the Pirelli. |

Very nice. It did pretty good in slalom also.
And I agree. Acceleration numbers are so close that we'll see them back and forth.

An interesting note, according to SA M5's launch control can't be used repeatedly like the AMG and Porsche, it need a brief cooling down period. Maybe new owners can verify this. |

AMS and Sport Auto are sister publications and released opposing results. Thats a first.
They have the bloody cars there, why don't they just release a youtube video. They both do 7.6s 100-200km/h, but the AMG does the slowest documented 0-100km/h of 3.5s...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm me thinks they didn't do more than 1 run or take an average. AMS and Auto Bild will have acceleration figures above 200km/h but SA almost never do. However, only SA does Nürburgring ring test, so I like them for different reasons. |

Impressive lap times by the AMG and M5, especially the M5. Holy shite. Impressive results all round. Which car won the comparo, and what were the general thoughts on each car?

Great discussion and nice to see a nice summary of comparos, especially the Sport Auto one. This is the one I trust the most; highly respected driver with several Nurburgring & Hockenheim record runs and typically a very matter of fact assessment of each cars strength and character. We got the 2018 E63s launch edition (M5 launched too late to be an option); love the car and am deeply impressed how much performance it delivers without any mods. Same can be said for the M5! While the M5 is out for me I like what BMW has done with the M8 and hope their production car stays close to the concept. I assume that a lot of M5 tech is going into the M8 as well... |
