I drove my modified old school 2WD 911 turbo no nannies ABS or whatever all year round, even every week during the winter to my local ski resort on summer tyres. Doesn't make me a hero though...ok maybe just a little bit! Quote:
Myself I like the xdrive system...not even sure why anyone would want to switch it off when the car is slower and excessively oversteery at the limit without it...good for drifting though. |

I love the idea of the RWD on the track, but coming from an F10 that would spin the wheels at every chance, I leave the AWD and traction control on because I love the reliable grip.

Given that the car is capable of some very high speeds with all the "nannies" on...exploring the cars performance at the limit with everything off seems quite risky on public roads regardless of your skill level. Last edited by SenorFunkyPants; 08-31-2021 at 05:03 AM.. |

I don’t think anyone wrote that RWD only mode is superior. As for nannies off, many of us have driven powerful cars that did not have any nannies. I do think the nannies today are so good that they help more than they hinder. But if you want to experience unrestrained big power, try turning them off. It can be a lot of fun.

Been there..done that..and sure in some cars its a lot of fun if somewhat exhausting.
And I agree, certainly for cars like my M4 where the DSC, and the way it controlled the diff, was flawed and really quite annoying. But in the F90 M5 whats the benefit of switching out the xdrive? The car is in any case is in RWD the vast majority of the time in street driving. You have to push the car pretty hard before you feel the drive move to include the front wheels...usually at speeds where if something caught you out then you might well be in serious trouble in RWD only and DSC off. I guess if you want the car to be slower and more unstable then switching to RWD & DSC off is the way to go. |

Some like to experience driving on the edge, where the control and traction are in your hands rather than in the computer’s hands. I agree it takes a lot more effort but you actually learn to feel how the car responds and when it loses grip. I also agree it is tiring, because you really have to be on the ball. I rarely turn the nannies completely off in this car — probably not even 1/10 of 1 percent of my driving time.

90% awd
10% rwd It's definitely more fun and more engaging in rwd, obviously, but I did enough of that in the F80. The AWD is a nice change of pace for now

No right or wrong here … every driver has to know their limits and those of the car and drive in accordance to that.

I leave the Nanies on, generally i take my z06 out in track mode with no nannies. Crazy how quickly i can get in trouble on cool tires. I don't get crazy just try and feel the limits but the street is a tough place to make a mistake.

I'm a 60/40 split, 60% AWD 40% 2WD.
If I want to smoke the hoops or hang the tail out, 2WD. Some days I'm just driving point A to B and don't care. If your not experienced driving a car with this kind of power without the nannies, just leave it AWD and enjoy.

Only had mine for 2 weeks but been driving it with almost all nannies and awd turned on. Coming from a civic, it's a bit of a leap, so want to adapt to it before going hardcore.

I said it earlier in another thread, the car feels amazing in 2WD and it’s not just a drift mode, it’s meant to be driven like that. The key is to understand the diff programming - it will keep you straight and when you overdo it, it’s easily controlled. If you want to slide, where it’s safe to do so, you have to learn on how to ease it in, so it understands what you are planning to do - don’t surprise it and you won’t get surprised. You need to practice, to get a feel of it, or don’t and just enjoy it 2WD and do do stupid sh*t.
I’ve driven all my cars with traction off in dry conditions and it’s the same with the F90. Steering feel is better, the car rotates nicely and with 600+ hp, you learn how to control your inputs. My default every day mode is 2WD, Sport throttle, Comfort chassis and steering. If it gets wet, I would drive it in 4WD and on the freeway I use cruise control and lane keeping in efficient. Be smart and enjoy. |

Nice to see others enjoying the car in RWD.
I put it into 4WD last night and did some spirited driving. It is actually pretty fun, I guess I forgot what it feels like to have traction, ripping into and out of traffic circles, it pulls hard in 1st and 2nd gear. |
