dents and wave around the roof.

hello everyone,
this is my first post because I have done a lot of research on the forum but couldn't find any same situation like my car.
I found a lot of dents and waves on the roof, most of them are on the front driver side, there are 3 big Sunken waves and not looks like hit by anything, and also there are some dent around the wave. on the passenger side, there are some convex waves"high spot". they are only will be notice when sunset. when the sun light Irradiate from a slanting angle.
I am very confusing about it, this is the first time I experience a car roof like this. and they are not look like caused by external factors.

any comment will be appreciate!!

I noticed mine has 2 spots where it appears to be some sort of irregularities on the surface during the first month of ownership.
Mines are towards the back on the driver's side.
It's a very slight dent, if you wanna call that, that's barely visible. Only when the roof is squeaky clean it's visible by looking at reflections.

It did bother me quite a bit, enough to consider a carbon roof but learned to live with it.

My '18 has a slight dent towards the back passenger side, and has since I got it. My doors are starting to develop small issues by the handles as well, even though I'm very ginger with them. Flimsy junk metal.

lol perhaps.
It's really hard to spot unless you really look for it.
Even on close inspection, it's only visible from certain angles.
When I try to approach that spot from the side, I can't find it.
Weird.

I used to check in cars for a dealership, so I'm trained to look for things most people would overlook, even on inspection. It's a curse.

I hear you. Ignorance is bliss sometimes lol.

So it begs the question;
- What caused this 'dent' looking surface defect?
- Can it be corrected with PDR?

The dude that used to come around to our dealership was a master, he could get into places I thought were impossible, but it's really on a case by case basis, some things you just can't get to. Best just to contact your local PDR to see. I'm leaving mine for the moment, and when there are more I'll have him do them all at once. Cheaper that way.

Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah, I learned to ignore those spots and now it doesn't bother me that much.
I'll leave it for now and seek advice in the future.

I don't think it's all that difficult to dent the roof. Had a passing folly of teaching myself how to vinyl wrap a car. First try was the shark fin antennae cover while on the car. Then the entire roof. I thought I was extraordinarily careful when leaning against the car w/ soft clothing, elbows and the like. Yet when I finally realized its a lot harder than it looks, and pulled everything off, cleaned, waxed and gave up, I had a very subtle dent that only I can see - on the roof about 4" inches in from a front rack attachment point. There's no doubt in my mind that I was the cause, any way or another. Really pissed me off.

You have a bunch of them. I can't imagine it left the factory like that, but perhaps it did. My guess is they're man made somewhere along the way. Automatic car wash, hand drying the roof w/ excessive pressure, ill fitting roof racks, removing frozen ice/snow, baseball hitting it, someone whacking the roof w/ a fist as they walked by, and the list goes on of possible causes. IMHO, the sheet metal body parts are made just thick/strong enough to get by and not a bit more.

Hope this helps. Contented

Perfect reason to get the moonroof! Less roof to dent! (I'll see myself out)

The sheet metal seems flimsy to me. I put a slight "impression" in the front fender arch while leaning on it. Apparently it doesn't take much for the rest of the body either.

Imma go check mine now…if there - hello carbon roof! (With follow on excuse to the wife how that is cheaper than paying a PDR guy who would NEVER be able to pop out the one small dent with easy access)
