Stripped Wheel Bolts
I search all over but could not find a post. Just posting in case someone comes across the same issue. So today I was going to clean my car but came across a rear flat tire. Simple job I thought. So I tried the wheel lock bolt first and I skipped…. I tought I did not fitted it properly, tried again and skipped. So I tried the other side. Skipped as well. I started to panic because there is no way I can move the car unless I tow it. A while back I got both my rear tires checked because i had nails on both, they must have use the impact gun and torqued the hell out of it. So I ended up going to Harbour Freight got me a extraction kit and some grinding dremmel bits. Took me about 1.5 hrs per side to grind down the middle part of the keyed bolt and both 17/32” and 9/16” extractors to get them out. Also another of the regular bolts was stripped too a 9/16” did the trick.
Not impossible but definitely scary and unacceptable. Don’t let anyone to overtorque the wheel bolts, per the owner’s manual spec is 101 ft/lb or 140 N-m. |
