Front differential Oil change - anyone DIY yet?

I got a message from my dealer who said the "Car called them" and said it needed an oil change and a differential oil change for the front differential.

Anyone DIY this yet??

PDF of service

600 ml of fluid. Don't over fill.

Looks pretty straight forward.

as per this, the Front, Rear and Transfer case oil is supposed to be changed every 90,000 km. So why is my car asking for only the front? This is very odd.

Wow — 2 year oil change interval. And I thought 1 year was a long time.

I've been doing my oil changes every 5000.....I'm old school...

The PDF for the front diff says 600 ml, but the PDF for the rear diff has a 'broken' link to a table. So I have to figure out the proper volume of fluid for the rear diff. I have that special oil already for the rear. Front uses less fancy fluid. LOL.

Rear diff requires exactly 1 liter of Hypoid G4 fluid, part number 83-22-2-447-362. Apparently, filling to the edge of the fill plug would be overfilling. I plan on doing my front and rear diff, transfer case, and transmission fluid changes myself this spring. Already purchased all the materials.

I actually went to have secondary dp installed and shop noticed front diff fluid seeping and lower oil pan gasket seeping/leaking. They said diff looked to be over fill and There was oil stains all over the bottom of the pan. After my last oil service I noticed oil drops on my garage floor the next day, took it back they said spillage and cleaned it up. Now it's at the dealer for this, they are waiting on approval to change the gasket. Any thoughts on what would cause lower oil pan gasket to leak. Over fill of oil? The car is really babied with couple pulls here and there. 9k miles on it.
Thanks

Could just be a botched install honestly, or could just be leaking from so.ewhere else like say front diff that was over filled or from filling oil up top and spilling everywhere.

Gotcha thanks! it's been a week and waiting for bmw to approve the gasket change, annoying. The lead foreman wants to change it out of precaution and I guess bmw claims it's not possible it can be leaking so they did the dye test, not sure of the results as I'm too pissed to call back.

Excellent, was hoping to find printed proof of this volume. I actually have several bottles of the Hypoid G4.

Interesting update in the Manual says now to use the G1.

The section on the front diff SPECIFICALLY says 600 ml. Second picture.

The section on the rear diff has no such specification, only that the stuff comes in 1 liter bottles. So I can see how the techs would overfill using the old school, fill until it runs out. This is shown on videos, but APPARENTLY not supposed to are done with the M5????? ODD.

I have 4 of these (500 ml each) so I'm good to go for the next two changes LOL. Unless it's true that the G1 "Should be used"

I'll bet if you ask the dealer they will have no idea which is now the correct oil to use in the rear.

The g1 is for non m vehicles ( says it in the pdf) the thing with ista is it gives you the info for every car and you have to piece together what's for what lol...

you appear to be correct but the bulletin is contradictory.

I have the G4 and plan on using that for the rear. I am getting other materials together. The transfer case is much more involved though, as per the PDF you need to disconnect the drive shaft to have access to the drain plug. Nice design.

This the kind of BS that just pisses me off.

The 'F90 Complete Vehicle' PDF has this....

SPECIFiCALLY calls out the volume of fluid for the front differential but neglects such information for the Transfer case and Rear Differential. Lame....

yeah Like i said ista gives you a bunch of stuff when you search the service manuals lol... half of it has nothing to do with your car and you have to sort through it lol...the part where it says f90 blah blah just states that's the car that was selected and thats about it, not that this particular page pertains to it

Bought all the supplies from FCPEuro. What is with their INSANE warranty?...I return the oil and filter (engine oil and diff oil etc) and pay the return shipping and they send a new setup for free? WHAT THE HELL? It's real. But it's insane. LMAO
