Remove B&W tweeter assembly / replace LED

Hey all! Picked up a 2019 M5C and while it's been great so far, the B&W LED on the driver side tweeter is flickering so I ordered a replacement LED to swap in. I haven't found a guide to replacing this though so I figured I'd reach out prior to potentially breaking something to see if anyone has DIY'd this yet or if anyone has any guidance to pulling that grille off?

If you don’t mind sharing, what is the part number to the LED? I thought it came as a whole with the tweeter? Mine are out as well.

Part No::65-13-6-820-713 according to BMW

I haven't been successful yet as the first replacement part didn't light up when I plugged it in.

Cool, I have another on the way and a RMA for the one I ordered last to try out as well. Replacing is super simple at least as far as getting the new one in. The only bitch is finding a hex driver small enough to remove the extremely tiny screw holding the board in.

The screw holding the board is a T6.

Get this item below, it comes in very handy for these types of scenarios.

So I replaced the led board today and no dice. I’m suspecting that its a pinched wire, or something else down the cable. I’ll take the panel off Sunday and see if I can find the issue then.

Did you get this resolved? I have the same problem w my rt tweeter light not working. I bought the replacement led and still didn’t work like yours. I then swapped the working left led and installed on the rt side and it works. Then I swapped the new tweeter light and it works on the left side.
so then i spoke w dealer and they said it has to be activated w the dealer and they want an hour labor to do that.

Activated at the dealer???

I never got mine to work. I bought 2, swapped the inoperable one and still didnt light up. I gave up after that.

If you do “activate” it at the dealer, let us know exactly what they did. Maybe we can do it via ISTA.

Both my front tweeter lights are out, not sure how I didn’t notice until now. I’ll try the easy LED fix, but did you guys ever figure out what else it could be if that doesn’t resolve it? I also have the dead midrange speaker issue in both front doors, plus a non-functional rear door tweeter. This system has been super fun…not.

One really stupid question: do the rear door tweeters light up? If not, great, mine aren’t broken lol. If they do, I’ll add that to the list…

Thanks for any insight!

Finally figured this one out.

Need:

Part # (Pre-LCI): 65136820713 (tweeter led light - same part # left and right)

Software: ISTA

1.)After you replace the LED board, launch ISTA and head over to the "tree chart".

2.)Find "LEM" and click on display faults (bottom right corner).

3.)Find your fault (in my case, "lighting of the tweeter, front right..." and click on calculate test plan.

4.)Select ambient lighting LEM and continue

5.)From here once again select your fault and continue.

6.)The next couple steps just asks you questions such as, are the connectors secure, is there voltage, etc....

7.) Assuming you don't have an electrical issue and it is just a faulty led board, proceed to the autocorrect test. Once performed, it will "activate" the led light and start to work once again.

8.) Exit ISTA and drink beer.

Pics attached for reference.

Amazing post, thank you!

I’m going to change mine soon, but not sure where to go to find someone with ISTA. Do most BMW mechanics (non-dealership) have ISTA? Thanks again!

They should. But google it, thats where I got my copy. And yes, the rear door speakers light up, if they are out, I believe you have to get the grille as it includes the led light and you can’t get it separately.

Thanks! Just to be clear, the rear mid range speakers are lighting up, but the separate tweeters at the top of the door panel are not. Are those supposed to light up? If so, it seems a little suspicious that all four of mine are not working at 37k miles. Maybe just the ISTA fix is needed?

Thank you again!

The tweeters light up only in the front. Rear mids only light up in the rear. Doesn’t hurt to try the ISTA process but I had both front tweeter lights out and 1 mid on an ‘18 w 65k miles.
