Residual

So My car hit the port today. I am talking to the dealer to finalize the numbers and low and behold they are different then when we spoke and I ordered the car.
They are saying the residual went from 69% at the beginning of October to 59% now.
Can anyone verify that? as that seems excessive to me.
I have never been more excited about a car than this one and now the wind is out of my sail.

I never seen residual in the 60% ish for M5! To my knowledge it has been 59% for 10K miles for awhile. You are good to go. Enjoy your car in good health and please post pics! Stay safe!

Residual was 59% in October. I rate locked in middle of October and that was the residual. It's the same now in December. I think someone misspoke back in October.

I don't think any BMW let alone an M car has ever seen a 69% residual. That is Jeep Wrangler territory.

I agree w/ the other replies here. That being side, BMW’s lease program (MF & residual) are typically the most competitive in the luxury brands. MB doesn’t lease close.

Absolutely, I've never seen M5 residuals over 60% for a three year lease. I'm on my 6th M5 lease, and the residual has almost always been 59% to 60%. Unfortunately for me on my first F10 (one of the 50 F10 European Delivery "launch party" cars) and my current F90 (my dealer's first F90 allocation) I got cars from the first production batch and had to suck up 50% residuals on both.

Imagine a 69% residual on a 3 years lease, everyone and their mom would take this offer and BMW would be flooded with lease returns at the end of term along with taking huge auction baths. Residual losses and gains make or break the leasing game.

Now I did have a 61% residual on my 2018 FE for 10k miles. But this was back in August of 2018.

Technically they cant "jam" you on the residual. That is set by BMWFS and you as the lessee choose your terms and mileage allowance. They have no skin in the residual game to make money on you.

59% is correct

December 2020 Program:

2021 MODEL YEAR

M5 and M5 Competition (2021MY)
15k miles / 56% residual
12k miles / 58% residual
10k miles / 59% residual

2020 MODEL YEAR

M5 and M5 Competition (2020MY)
15k miles / 54% residual
12k miles / 56% residual
10k miles / 57% residual

But I heard you can now lease an M5 at 7500 miles so add 1 more to the 2021 residual.

Why do you say the dealers is trying to jam you?

The residual as Vic said is set by bmwfs and cannot be manipulated unlike the money factor.

Plus it's the same as it was in October and if memory serves all the way back into this past summer.

I meant jam me on the cost of the car, changing the discount.

They can get you by inflating the money factor (MF). I believe the base is .00082 for top tier credit history. Anything higher than that is profit to the dealer also.

I don't think they are jamming you or changing the discount. What everyone here is telling you is that it's always been the same, and you likely misheard or someone misspoke. Very unlikely they misspoke on this (dealer has no control over this), so unless you have it in writing, I'd bet on you hearing or remembering wrong.

MF is at the buy rate but that's not the issue, this is the issue.
The GM was looking at the wrong deal!
He's looking at a car that is 7k more than mine. I'm dumbfounded by this. I know stuff happens but come on!
I'll know tomorrow which way it goes.

Try 80% back in 2011, albeit at Z435is, but I still jumped on it!
