I currently have 30,000 miles on my 2018, and the front and rear brakes are at least 3/4 still present. I was surprised. I did a brake fluid flush (car screamed for it at 30,000) and took a good look at all the pads. Amazed me.

So I agree, "Replace front brake pads.....early....." How many miles on that car??

It's 100% city miles and back roads, and really enjoy red lining it, so I need to brake hard before the next turn or stop light.

Rarely go to highway, I find it boring driving at 155 mph constant speed

Now it all makes sense. Traffic light to Traffic light racing. That will wear out the brakes fast.

On the lighter side, doing new brakes is pretty easy.

So I had the update performed today, no changes in sound, all pop and bangs still there, moreover car seems to pull stronger across the rev range, probably only in my head

Of course I lost all settings, M buttons, door locks, lights, etc.

June 2019 production

Left the car this morning for the update. Its an 2019/2 build.

I had CarPlay activated earlier via "fake" FSC file on USB stick since i have iDrive6 (NBTevo_O..).
Read that if the dealer performs an upgrade of the iDrive there could be problems that the Navi wouldnt work afterwards and BMW refusing to fix, flag the car as software modified and instead offering to replace the whole HU at customers expense.

Of course the tech called me in the afternoon and said that there was a problem and that he couldnt get the Navi to work and that the car now was hooked up to BMW central support and that they would call me tomorrow. He didn´t mention anything about that "someone" had installed the FSC files.
However, 30min later he called back and said the support team had fixed it. I didnt ask anything about the issue, just went there and picked up the car.
The NBT version is nov NBTevo_W20204I which i guess is the latest there will be for iDrive6.

Most of my settings was gone (including all I´ve done with BimmerCode), but all Pops and Bangs are still there, both in N and when driving.

Seems to be very mix and match but unless I am missing something it looks like the newer models seem to be the ones that have more chance of losing the pop/bang factor.

Doesn't really make sense to me that some have pops and some do not after a software update. I am putting my money on user error.

User as in tech during install, or driver?

Many confuse reg date with build date. Mine id Oct 2018 build, supplied September 2019, with OPF and it is muted.

Easy test is let the car warm up, Sport Plus and rev the engine. Used to pop on the 'way back down', now it doesn't. No user error sitting still.

Yes no longer will in neutral or on downshifts, used to pop multiple times.

I think cars in UK may have actually been fixed and the excess noise coded out. The question for me is the discrepancy between US cars where I am located.

some of the cars may be getting a full scan and software update and some may be getting only the module that pertains to fuel ventilation depending on the tech working on the car, dealer policy, etc.

or some of the cars may already have the latest software in the ECM and therefore would not notice any difference after a dealer visit.

Mine went in for a faulty rear door lock Thursday, and was flagged for the recall, and was given a choice of either voiding the warranty or letting them do the recall.

All settings were wiped. And the sound has definitely changed. In Sport it is more muted and in Sport Plus the pops are “sharper”, almost individual bangs (2-3), whereas it used to be more rolling thunder. Don’t like the change at all, but had no choice to have it done

Ventilation Recall

This is a hoax by BMW to change your software on your car to EU standards. If you have a 2018 or 2019 with great sounding exhaust. The new software will delete this sound. So buyer beware!

I also got the fuel vent related recall software update. Absolutely no difference to the pops and bangs. BimmerCode still works so I’m guessing the ECU is still hackable. I have a 2018 M5C

What is frustrating is losing all your settings, seat memories etc. First world problems I guess..

Just got my car back as well - 07/2018 prod date. No difference in sound, might even be a bit louder - both me and the wife think so at least.

Just had this done a couple days ago, to my ‘21 US model. I didn’t notice too much of a difference on the drive home, but I also didn’t get a chance to open it up too much, so will go and check it out a bit later and report back.

Yep, so I believe the “pops and bangs” are SIGNIFICANTLY reduced, after this service. Just took the car out and put it through its paces, and for sure the things that I used to be able to do to produce the sounds no longer work. Maybe they are not completely gone, but for sure they are at the very least heavily muted or minimized. It’s unfortunate, and maybe it is just a case of my computer resetting itself and will “learn” back in the sounds, but I doubt it. And this is in Sport+ engine with ASD on.
