Now that I think about it, I’m fairly certain that’s why the communication has sucked. I bet BMW is working closely with govt agencies and being provided very strict guidelines to operate within in order to avoid the aforementioned enforcement actions from happening. They’re probably being advised on what to say, when to say it, and who to say it to.

Here in the UK we have strict emissions laws, I can't see it being a emission related problem, Ventilating Fuel tanks does nothing for emissions as such. IMO.

Apparently the fault results in a CEL *not* being thrown when it should, if a certain type of ventilation failure occurs.

Minimizing the ventilation of fuel vapor into atmosphere is one of the areas that emissions regulations attempt to control tightly. Not just combusted exhaust.

In this day and age, the lack of updates/communication is astounding.

I can sympathize that the situation may be very fluid, but not a single official statement since the generic "stop hold" is bordering insane. Leaving dealers and customers twisting like this as bad as it can get be. My gut tells me the hold was a knee jerk reaction, as BMW obviously did not have a plan/fix in place to address the issue.

The fact that current owners have been told nothing is also BS. How can you put a stop delivery on EVERY M car (M5, M8, X5M, X6M, and X4M) sitting on a dealer lot, new or used, and not tell people that are currently driving them around with their families what is going on. If I had my car and was driving around, I think I would be concerned. Cars can't be delivered/sold, but sure.... you can continue driving whatever is out there.

Just frustrated, as the hold that seems to have no end in sight is having me juggle around a lot of scheduled plans, appointments, travel, etc.

Anyways... done my rant.

BMW NA could do a better job communicating directly with consumers. My dealer's been great about keeping me updated, but if I didn't have BimmerPost to hear other buyers also experiencing stop-sales, I would've really wanted to also hear direct communication from BMW NA... just so that I'd know that it wasn't my dealer yanking my chain.

At any rate, it looks like the M5s are going to get an update on the 18th if they're at the port and on the 23th if they're at the dealer which would mean pickup on the 24th!

Yeah, not great that it's Thanksgiving week. Any hiccup or delay and I'd/we'd have to wait perhaps another week. But I'm just so glad that at least there's a timeframe.

Not sure why thanksgiving week matters. Thought it was now deemed an illegal holiday? Might as well go back to work. Lmao

Just got this from a source since BMW is not willing to elaborate on the problem.

Dear Sir or Madam, An incorrect behavior in the diagnosis of the tank ventilation was found in the vehicles. The first time an error is detected, an entry is made in the error memory. If the error is recognized again in the second driving cycle, the MIL is activated. This MIL activation is suppressed because the diagnosis locks itself after the first error detection. The diagnosis does not run a second time. In addition, the catalytic converter and lambda probe diagnosis is blocked. For the F9x G80 G82 series, based on the chassis number selection, BMW AG has decided on a worldwide delivery block and an emissions-related recall in the US, Canada, Korea and China markets. In the remaining markets, the implementation takes place as a technical action with customer notification. Please arrange for the control units to be reprogrammed on the vehicles concerned (according to the chassis number selection) before the vehicle is delivered. In the case of vehicles that have already been delivered, the customer is to be requested to visit the workshop at short notice in accordance with the enclosed text proposal. Note: ISTA 4 with installed E service data package is required for programming / coding. The error correction is included from the following 1-level version: I-level S15A-20-11-533 or more recent (probably available from ISTA 4.26.35, publication planned from week 48) 1-level S18A-20-11-533 or more recent (expected to be available from ISTA 4.26.35, publication planned from week 48) Note: It is imperative to ensure that programming is carried out with the above-mentioned or a more recent l-level!

So does this mean they actually have a fix, but don't intend to apply it in the US market (and others you listed)? If I misinterpreted, then someone please help make sense of this for me (or us).

My sales manager text me on Monday saying no update on the issue is available. I wonder if this information is widespread or contained amongst certain dealers? Anyway, thanks for sharing this update.

I spoke to an SA about this today, and he was aware of the issue, and said that a fix was on the way, but wasn’t ready for the US yet.

Fingers crossed for all of you whom are awaiting delivery!

I just spoke with my SA. My car arrived in Brunswick GA on the Orion Highway a couple days ago. Software update was already done and
Vehicle has already been released to trucker for shipment. Just to clarify it's only software related and the fix has been done so don't let them
Tell you it's still pending or they don't have a solution.

Try calling BMW Genius, it may be fixed already and released to carrier. The tracking on the site is delayed.

I called my SA to confirm our earlier conversation that the car would be updated Monday and will be available for delivery by Tuesday or Wed.

They confirmed that everything remains on track!

Looks like the 23rd fix for dealerships is lining up with conversations posted on the Board.

I'm 80% convinced with a 20% holdback, until I hear its done Monday LOL!

Good luck to all!
