Tuning 2021 models

Hey there,

My M2C was recently totaled, and I’ve decided to replace it with a 21 X5Mc.

First thing I did was contact my tuner, and they stated that they have not been able to flash 2021 models( any engine)

They said even piggy backs wouldn’t work.

Can anyone confirm this?

If I’m SOL on the 21 I may just cancel the deal and look for a 20 that’s hanging out on someone’s lot.

What a blower!!!! If true

I've heard the JB4 and RaceChip are both compatible with the new models. There are JB4 F90 cars in the low 10s!

I’ve been reading about race chip today. Looks really good.

I know a few people with bad experiences with JB4, is race chip basically the same thing.

I definitely like that RC is made in Germany

They are the same if you don't install half of the JB4 connections but you are not going to match the performance of a full JB4 by only installing half of it or running RaceChip. Either one is better than factory.

Interesting! Thanks!

I’ve read about lots of folks really enjoying it on their m5s. It seems to make serious power.

Most of the issues I’ve heard about are with much cheaper cars like 335s and m3/4.

RaceChip does work on F95 X5MC.
I have installed in house and sold a few out of states.

Have you tuned yours?

From what I’ve heard is it’s not even just 21 bimmers. The Supra is affected as well since it’s basically a re packaged z4.

Tuned both my 2020 Supra GR & 2021 M5 LCI! JB4 is available and you can also give Gintani a call they'll offer you various options.

With what?

I’ve been looking into JB4 and it definitely looks like a great option, the install just looks like a total PITA. But right now it’s my primary option.

I’d much prefer a flash.

I installed the racechip GTS black on my 2021 and have it dialed up to 7. I feel absolutely no power difference. I was also told that the 2021 has changed their encryption technology and no one has cracked the code on them as of yet. I just came out of of 18’ e63s and that car felt much quicker. I wish I would have done my homework a little more thoroughly. With the change in to the dash with the omission of the traditional round gauges and the inability to tune, I would have kept the MB.

Hi,
the encryption part applies to flash tunes, not piggybacks (unless this is a brand new thing that I am not aware of)

Your Racechip might be defective or just weak, I recommend trying the Jb4 instead (We offer it with a 30-day money-back guarantee in case you are not happy with the power output)

Where did you purchase the RaceChip from?
You'll need to get it checked out.
Could be either installation or defective product.

Bought the racechip from Racechip. Installation looks pretty straight forward.

So it bothers you that much that they're simply not a circle? It's still just an LCD screen. And if I remember correctly in sport mode doesn't it just got a digital speed inside a tachometer? Bit dramatic to not buy a car cuz it's speedometer isn't a circle.

Hey Maverick,
The circle didn’t stop me, I bought the car. It’s just the old traditional dials that I prefer. Time marches on and one, like myself, needs to adapt to change. It may grow on me. HaHa

I think the digital gauges look like crap too.

Every tuning shop that does a lot of bimmers I’ve spoken to says they can’t touch 21s.

I might just cancel my order and pick up a 20 somewhere or maybe just buy something used

Honestly I feel like I’m lost. I truly don’t LOVE any vehicle that’s out right now. I’ve never felt that before. The x5m is already starting to looking dated to me, and I haven’t even taken delivery yet. If I can’t get the power out of it then why waste my monies ...amirite...

911 turbo s may be the only answer.

Peter glen, I have a 15’ Turbo S that has been moded with turbos, intercoolers and ecu. 0-60 2.35, 0-100 5.4. Don’t drive it much, only 4500 miles, but it’s a beast.

RG, I’ve gone over the install a number of times hoping that I got it wrong. The installation is fairly straightforward. A to the right side, B to the left, and connecting and locking down the connectors. The display comes on, got it dialed up to 7, but I feel no difference than when it’s dialed to 0. I had piggybacks on a Panamera Turbo and a e63s, both had significant seat of pants hp gains, but this one doesn’t. Beginning to think the 21’s got the piggybacks locked out too.
