Hi all. Has anyone flashed a tcu tune on their f90? I'm waiting for a bit more info, but high level, looks like shift points, shift pressures, and torque limits all get adjusted.
I've never done a tcu tune on a car, so it's new to me. Even if you've not gone down this path for the f90, any experiences on other platforms? I see it's pretty common for the m3/m4, dct m5, and Audi's. Ah and looks like other platforms with the zf8 have been doing it for a few. |

I have had numerous ZF8's (2 RS7's, Bentley GT3R, Jag F Type R, F90 of course) and all really responded well for normal non track street driving with ECU tunes sans the Jag which was just behind the times. The tuning improved throttle response and that created the shift "feel" improvement as well. The OEM TCU tunes on the others are really good except for the Jag (the F90 is good). Of course the DCT purists love their cars and so do I having had over 20 plus DCT's but the ZF8 with the F90 is just fine for me in a real world experience. Id welcome a test on the ZF8 TCU tune but I wonder what would be the tangible vs negligible gains. BMW has always done a reasonable TCU/DCT job on the M's. Ive never owned a non M BMW.

I hear you. I'm also very happy with the stock setup. However, the shift point changes and torque limit modification, post-ecu tune, are welcome. I may just check it out; we'll see. |

Vic, I rather liked the Jag transmission much better than I like the F90, I was getting the kick in the back in upshifts with the Jag, with M5 I am missing it.
Is there any transmission setting n F90 that would give the kick on upshifts?

Im not sure if any setting will give you a "fiery" kick in the F90- my launches sure pin me back though (sport plus in all but steering and suspension- drive logic at 3 bars).

I had the F Type V6 S.
Apart from the kick on upshifts, another thing that I liked on the Jag transmission was that I could combine using the paddles with auto upshifts on D. Wonder if this is possible in M5? This would be very helpful in 1st and 2nd where where M5 goes so fast through the rev range and bounce off the rev limiter

I TCU-flashed my 2017 RS7P and the upgrade was palpable: higher shift-points, entry into the gear unconstrained w/ zero lag... I'd love to see this for an F90 since, evidence abound, I'm convinced the tranny can take it.

I think I saw HC Performance mentioning somewhere they're coding the TCU as well, in order to get faster 0-60 times.

So, small update here. At the drag strip, prior to messing with the TCU config, my car did not like being launched hard (hold LC to build good boost). It would launch, make the first and second shift, and then the tcu would intervene. Felt like the car would dump boost, and then build boost again, and then be back off to the races, literally. I'm not a tuner, but I assume this is for powertrain protection. I could, however, launch using launch control if I did a low boost launch (launched immediately after LC engages). We modified the TCU file to up the torque limits...now the car will launch hard and not get frustrated. That was v1 of the TCU tune. Moving on to v2, we've lowered the OEM shift points to allow for earlier shifts; the stock shift points are not ideal for my setup. We also modified the ECU file to increase the rev limits to stop the car from cutting fuel/spark at the shift points...to get fast and powerful shifts at the right time. We are now working on v3, lowering the shift points even further to find the proper place for the car to shift for max power/efficiency (going to try 6700 rpms).
getting better...and cooler (78 degrees). 2019 base m5 awe intake weistec ecu file beta tcu file (on rev 2 ....playing with it) remus catback stock ps 4s 10 gallons 93 octane, 6 gallons 100 octane, 3 gallons e85...not ideal but had too much 93 octane in tank, so needed an octane boost Happy with the first half of the track. Back half can improve....this run my 60-130 was 7.8, which is awful. I average closer to 7.4 now, which is also not that great (this is what we're working on now). Run was against a hellcat on tires with intake, stock ecu, and race gas. He had back seat removed and passenger front seat removed. |

Trans does shift great. I agree. My fastest 60-130 times are always manually shifting, but I'm not consistent. Also, if you read above, the car did not like hard launches at the track (too much traction), now I'm able to launch with more boost. Next time will try launching harder...only got two runs in.
And definitely no need for any of this. It's all for fun, and I enjoy tweaking these things. |

Working on a TCU/Gearbox tune that increase torque limits by gear (Not all gears have the same torque limiters in place).
Some cars drop boost randomly in the gearing some cars do not if their octane is 100+.

I flashed TCU on a couple of F90's with HCP, the result is definetly there and noticable at every aspect faster, sharper and better than before.
It is needed when running Stage 2 maps, especially someone who wants to do launches from 0, after the tcu detects increase in pressure, it kind of does very poor launches to save the gearbox. Florida M5, you should have ran better with the mods you have. Our HCP M5 stage 2 + tcu flash did 10.3 1/4 mile on pump gas and PS4S. |

Crazy how many f90s are getting into the low 10s. I hear you, regarding my car. Added jb4 and with e30 blend, I'm now running 10.3 at 137mph in quarter mile, and that's in not cold weather. Cant wait to run it in sub 60 degree weather....should be soon. I'm hopeful I can pick up another tenth. And we'll continue tweaking. |

Who offers TCU tune alone for the F90? I have an F85 x5m, with BM3 stage 2 OTS, but haven't found any TCU tunes for F85 platform. I imagine since F85 and F90 are very similar along with same 8hp75 being the same there should be someone who can tune it. Anybody I should contact?

We offer TCU software for nearly all 8HP except the 2012-13 E70 X5 50i.
