BM3 Map editor

Anyone on here using this to map their own car?

Seems very little info on self-tuning the F90 M5. I guess most people who own them are not that into ecu tuning?

the map editor is for customers who have experience tuning cars. I do not recommend learning on your F90 M5

Yes I understand that. I have tuned cars for years although mostly diesel.

Anyway that was not the question I asked but thanks for your input.

With the cars that you've had or have in your signature. I'm sure you're capable. But what kinda things would you do or change? The ots maps are pretty decent with the right fuel. Just curious?

Can I start by saying. I am more than happy with BM3 OTS Map. I know how some people read into things that are not there and the fact they “give” you editing software for what is essential free is fantastic!!

I agree OTS maps are very good and I should probably just stick with that. I had BM3 on my X3MC and it was very very good. I should say, I don’t expect to make any more power than the professional tuners it’s all about the journey/fun for me. Flashing a car is boring, playing with the map is most interesting.

What I will change. (below not in any order)

Optimise ignition timing for my fuel/boost. I only ever run 99 ron (around 93 US)

Adjust boost to 24.5psi max. From all the research I have done these motors are sensitive to high boost. Our cars don’t run fixed boost, the ecu adjust boost to attain requested torque. That can be changed. If I can figure it out, getting there I think.

AFR, again our cars AFR target is very complex. It seems to try its best to stick to stoichiometric 14.7 even under load initially. If you do multiple pulls it will then go richer. I would like to run 12.1 AFR (0.81Lambda) on full load fixed. In the old Cosworth days we used to run 10.8 like a magic number but I guess direct injection among other things has moved the game on. Our Stock cars can go as low as 10.2AFR (0.7Lambda) in theory

Limit torque to around 900nm but keep it a bit longer in the rev range. I don’t want huge torque, again the rods are not the strongest for massive torque. Some say the F90 has stronger rods than the F10 but I can’t confirm that anywhere, better to be safe than sorry. I see some tuners (not BM3) running 1100nm from around 2500rpm coming in with a bang that seems a bit risky for my liking.

I hate seeing the diesel style power graphs, huge power midrange then looking like a banana in the top end. If I wanted a diesel, I would buy one. For me, petrol should have linear power to the red line. What’s the point of revving to 7200rpm and making peak power at 5500rpm?.

Then depending how things go add in some Meth

Doing a wee bit of map tuning today. interesting to see the difference between Comp and Non comp torque request.

Very same power to 5620 rpm.

You can work out the BHP by converting to lbs foot, multiply by revs and divide by 5252. Not an exact calculation but pretty close if you care to work it out.

@6k comp is making 624, non comp 590 which is close enough I think.

Interesting, everyone always says the m5 is underrated severely from factory HP but this suggests that’s it’s not underrated at all?

I guess that is what the ecu is asking for, what that translates to in real life may be slightly different? Prob down to different dyno makes and operators resulting in slightly over-inflated numbers?

Everyone likes a good dyno figure

True but in real life the comp m5 runs 10.9@129mph. Certainly seems like it’s pushing more like 650hp+ than the 616hp it’s advertised for a 4400lbs limo.
