Emile was one of my instructors at the 1 Day M School. Really nice cool dude. I was tripping out because the next day from getting back from the M School I saw him on VINwiki.

If you guys haven't done the M School, I highly recommend it. M Track day is exactly as he described, it's an experience, not a school, and it's a tease for what you are going to do in M School.

Man, that M5 knows how to go sideways! Do they teach the customers how to drift that same day or it's only the instructors that demonstrate drifting?

Can anyone tell me how I can get information for the next event or any of these events? I'm from NYC so the closest destination is only about 3 hours away.

Did an "M" track Day a couple years ago with my wife. We were younger then; 71 & 72; had a ball. Wife beat young guys every time in the drag race...real " little old lady from Pasadena"! More fun than you should be allowed with clothes on!

For M Track Days, only the full day event has the drifting exercise on a wet "skidpad" (depending on the facility they're at, it may just be watered down asphalt). The M Schools teach this on the polished concrete skidpad. You can also do private instruction on the skidpad

It depends on the program you sign up for. M School will allow for drifting on the drift pad. What you see in the video is likely the instructor demo they do at the end of the day with students in the car. They use the M5 because you can fit more people in it and they can get through the people faster. On M School days they used the M3, which is easier to drift. The M5's are heavy and tend to go into limp mode on hot days. I would limp after 3 fast laps at Thermal.

"Catch me if you can" is standard. Really fun to reach you limit and see how skilled these instructors really are. I think I'm totally pushing it and then the instructor says "okay we're going to increase the pace" and I like "wtf I can't go any faster!" But then you do and it'a such a great experience.

There's a track day at COTA coming up that I'd love to go to but I will miss unfortunately due to family health issues. I'll have to catch it next year.

Great story. I was lucky to be able to do Performance Center Delivery with my dad when I bought my 1M. It was a super fun day for me, but it was even better for my dad. He made so many sacrifices for me growing up -- he just gave up being able to do things like this for my brother and me, though I know he would have loved to. My favorite part of the day was just sitting next to him in the passenger seat while he drove on track and watching him have so much fun. It's a memory I'll always cherish and BMW know what they're doing at these events.

I just signed up for the half day at COTA because of this video. I usually track my Cayman but this will be a fun change of pace. Doesn't look very full either.
