2020 F90 M5 Comp build thread

Recently made a switch from a G80 M3 comp to an F90 M5! It’s been a long time dream to own a new M5, and fianlly the day is here. It’s a 2020 Comp, in Marina Bay Blue over Silverstone. Decided to go with the pre LCI due to not wanting to deal with sending both ECU’s out to femto, as I’d like to use BM3.

The car already came with some tasteful mods such as:
-RW carbon front lip
-RW carbon diffuser
-RW carbon spoiler
-AFE inlet ducts
-iSweep brake pads
-H&R lowering springs
-Michellin Pilot Sport Cup 2S

I’ve owned the car for 3 days now and have been having a blast! Already have a bunch of parts on order:
-BMS intake kit
-XHP transmission flash (already done)
-Mad fatboy primary downpipes
-Looking for a set of secondary downpipes
-JQwerks magnetic paddle shifters
-50th anniversary badges
-Colour matched reflectors (IND)
-BM3 license
-One step colder spark plugs
-Dinan coils

Excited to build this car with the support of local F90/S63TU guru ESP automotive. Will update thread as things arrive/get installed

Here are a few photos over the last few days, lastly if anyone is interested in keeping up with the car on Instagram; my tag is @itz.dat.f90m5 !

Installed the IND paint matched fromt reflectors, really nice subtle difference! Also got in my JQwerks magnetic paddle shifters, really excited to install those - have them in my E90 M3 and I love the tactile racing sim like feel.

How hard was it to install the reflectors?

Pretty easy! Hardest part was getting the residue off the inside of the bumper. Didn’t have a heat gun.

Installed my BMS intakes (DIY) on Friday, really easy install, and sounds amazing. Plan would be to upgrade to Eventuri intakes next year however.

Also went to ESP automotive and got an oil change. Attempted a 100-200 KMH dragy test as the DA’s and ambient temp were nice on my way home, and it ran a 7.02 considering the cad is 95% mechanically stock!

Had the JQwerks magnetic paddle shifters installed and I am loving them! Really tactile feel, definitely changed the interior experience for me. Took a POV clip of how they sound: https://youtube.com/shorts/4UCChei4-...By3y33Z6T_7ddp

Also had the car detailed, and had 50% windshield tint done by quality detailz.

Received some parts this week! Dinan coils from IND + SSR downpipe set which I purchased pre owned here through the m5 community, from seller Rausky ! Planning on using the secondaries from this set, and waiting on the MAD Fatboy primaries which should be arriving today.
In addition to the install of the downpipes and coils next week, I will be doing one step colder spark plugs, and coolant flush.

The ET shows you are starting with a good running stock car. BMS says its open engine bay intakes are good for 10 rwhp above 25psi so you have not benefitted from them yet and are just getting a more powerful sound. Look forward to more performance testing as the mods are added.

Definitely. I got the intakes to hear more turbo sounds, hoping to upgrade to the Eventuri’s next year though! Did a bit more testing, got the car into the high 6’s 100-200 & 200-250.

Excited to keep pushing. Once the downpipes go on, will be loading BM3, and hopefully a custom tune from HCP next season!

You're already a legend in my book for ALSO having an E9x m3 AND an F90 as your stable.

VERY well done

Nice thread. I like seeing Dragy results after each performance upgrade, puts cost to performance into perspective.

It’s been a good few weeks for my M5!

Completed:
•Mad catless primary downpipes + SSR secondary downpipes
•Dinan coils
•New OE spark plugs
•Oil change
•Diff fluid flushed
•Coolant flush
•Turner carbon engine cover

Will be sending out my ECU’s to protuningfreaks in the next week to be bench unlocked. Purchased a BM3 license, will load an OTS 93 & E30 stage 2 map for this year, next year my plan is to get a custom E30 map from Halim at HCP & possibly Eventuri inlets.

Downpipe sound clip:

https://youtube.com/shorts/-JwAzims5...e7IAZQTheWagzt

And some photos: updated 100-200 time (haven’t had a chance to do a proper 1/4 mile pass)

Update!

Had my good friend Frank take out my ECU’s so I could send them out to BM3 (protuningfreaks) for a bench unlock. Huge shoutout to the great service from them, was in and out in 10 mins with unlocked ECU’s!
Had Frank come by again to re install them and flash stage 2 OTS 93 octane BM3 map. Definitely made a big difference, car feels alive and pulls hard past 200kmh - new 100-200kmh numbers below - car is trapping 134.43mph in the 1/4 mile, however could not get the car to hook, so my PB time was 10.82.

As fun as this map is, after seeing all the amazing numbers that Halim at HCP has been doing on G80s and F90s, my plan is to get an E30 & 93 map from him before the end of this year.

Also installed LCI style taillights. The installation was pretty straightforward, and they look stunning on the car. Must have upgrade for pre LCI F90’s!

Little update on the M5! Got a new front lip put on, CF side skirts, and she is now tuned by Halim HCP! I have only tried the 93 octane map, will be installing my spool flex fuel sensor and then trying the E40 map. New 100-200 PB is 5.35 on pump gas!! Dragy attached below. Have not been able to get any good 1/4 mile passes in - ground is two cold and all 4 wheels are spinning into 3rd gear.

I also have H&R springs, Meth kit + RK adaptors, B&W speakers, and a few other cosmetic things ready to go on.

Aside from this, the car has been a phenomenal daily driver, enduring all the cold days Canada has to throw in our way. Definitely a phenomenal (and reallyyyyy fast) daily driver.

Also on an unrelated note, I have added another M5 build into my collection - my dream car since new and personal favourite m5.. the legendary S85 powered E60, photo attached below next to its younger brother the f90! Need to change my username to m5fanatic

Congrats on the addition! Hoping I run into a clean one someday to scoop up. Have always wanted to own an e60 someday. F90 progress is looking very promising!
