Verbi, cool thread, props for doing it. I hope the discussion continues.
Not a problem. Just trying to provide some insight.

1. Agree
2. Partially agree. Definitely R. Kelly. But, gotta go with 12 Play. Seriously, the whole album. And, if you're old enough, a close second was Shai, If I ever fall in love, a capella version. Last place: anything from Ne-Yo

5. Real talk, James Brown is the correct answer. Fetty Wap is not.

I observe. And in the NY Metro area, most white people are pretty chill and have a mix of real friends. But as you move away from that spectrum...where there's a more homogenous White community, the "ignorance" is very apparent.

I don't use ignorance here as a CW term or in a derogatory way. I use it in the pure defintion of "not knowing".

I employ empirical evidence that I've observed in Dallas. You'd be surprised how unknowing some White people are of other cultures, let alone knowing they could say or do something offensive to other races. Something simple like wearing a sombrero and thick mustache and posing for a Mexican Tuesday photo is all in good fun but ended up
Pissing off a bunch of Latinos.

I chalk it up to the lack of exposure and lack of "ethnic" experience.

Growing up among 33% Asians in my HS and then 25% Asian in college, I really got a firsthand view of what it means to be Asian in the US. Hanging out with my Puerto Rican friends and their families through college helped me gain insight on their culture. Same goes for Nigerian American, Indian, and Black. All perspectives different than growing up in a purely White American framework.

My 2 cents.

Hey dude, no offense taken, at least over here. That's great input given your circumstantial evidence and experience.

To be quite blunt, stereotypes exist for a reason. They are given fuel by the people who personify them daily. This is not going to change. Do I break the stereotype of black people? A lot of the time, yes. Sometimes, no.

Do I take offense to racial remarks when they are underscored with negative connotations? Of course I do.

However, the fact of the matter is that our ethnicities have dug a grave of preconceived notions and it is up to us as individuals to set the tone for local change with regard to our operating circles. I am sick and tired of the bitching and complaining about my race from people of other races like we are supposed to be some kind of fucking pity group, or something. We are not entitled, we are not scorned.

Anyway, I'll go back to my humorous responses. Just had to get that shit off of my chest.

"Dude, that is seriously offensive." People generally get one of those. And I can chalk that to being raised in some backwater or having parents who did not raise them right. But after that, shit don't fly. And that is most everyone on most everything. "My background" or "my upbringing" is (largely) a bullshit excuse used to justify just not trying. I wish I were perfect. I learn of ways now and then that I can improve. When I do, I make a choice whether to get better in that area. If I choose not to, I have communicated that it is not important enough to me. From there out, I have no choice but to own that imperfection, because I chose it. Choosing to do nothing about it is the same thing as choosing it.

/rant

Edit: I sound bitchy. I know you weren't saying that ignorance excused things. This was a kneejerk reaction to having heard this excuse like a brazillion times.
Well said, dad.

I actually marched with my Godfather in Charleston, South Carolina when I was a lot younger, a silent march to protest the flag. It was a jarring, disturbing, horrifying experience.

About 20 minutes into the March, the Confederate supporters started showing up on the sides of the road in front of the shops that lined both sides of the street. The streets were blocked off for the day, for the purposes of our protest. They threw things, shouted atrocities, had signs bashing the NAACP, and jeered at us.

However, no one in our group stirred. We continued to walk, as enabling these people with a response would further paint a picture of destruction and ignorance that has been consistently associated with my race. When we reached the flag location, we all stood silently for about 20-30 more minutes, surrounded by people of all colors who continued to scream and threaten and insult.

Never in my life had I seen first hand in the 21st century the true hatred that seeps through the cracks of this nation, and the fact that a simple ideology could have such an impact on the beliefs and outlook of others.

I understand that it represents a point in time, but no, I am not in favor of it.

1. Genetics are pretty difficult to reverse, unless you're Sammy Sosa or Michael Jackson.

2. Luther Vandross/Teddy Pendergrass

3. Probably, never spent much time in the ghetto and I was fortunate enough to have my dad around. Still do.

4. It is a naturally pleasing aspect of the female anatomy to view and grasp. It also feels great and provides ample cushion when being ridden on top during intercourse, or doggy-style.

5. She probably has good credit herself, and is seeking stability as opposed to what she normally attracts.

6. Godfrey.

7. Dolemite.

I actually received quite a few infractions over the years for using that term, dunno if the mods have lightened up or not over time but you are really reputable and I like you.

Mods, please don't ban swagon.

Also, I actually rarely use the word. It feels weird saying it.

I used to rap actually, and I used it frequently back then. Just felt right, I guess. It's also very easy to rhyme lots of words with, nonsensically.

British show called... something... LUTHER - that's it. Idris Elba in full British hood-speak. I suspect his real accent is a bit more posh than the character. He is a great actor.
