Well, I can tell you there is a nice long tunnel near my house that I've been known to frequent. I've fine-tuned the art of getting my pops and bang at the right moment! After picking up my M5 this last time, I noticed I wasn't getting any the usual bangs. I pulled over and looked over my settings and made sure everything was set correctly. I went back in for a 2nd tunnel run and nothing! The next day I did another tunnel run and it was still muted. All this changed since the recent software update. I've already sent my SA an email asking about it. If this is now considered "normal" I want my software rolled back to an earlier version!

I just got the new s/w load last week as part of debugging a couple of instances of the instrument cluster display not starting at power up. On the way home I did the "exhaust noise" test and, to me, it sounded like it did prior to the s/w update (2020 base model M5).

You would imagine that it’s a software thing and nothing more though they may just keep it for the Facelift model so give that difference.

It's because the 2021s have the new M Mode button by the gear shifter. My understanding is the minute you click on that button, you get the new M view in the instrument cluster. Logically, you would think some software engineer can make that applicable to any of the recent models but I'm guessing that's too much work.

I imagine at some point someone somewhere will hack it and give this dash layout.

How do you change the brakes from comfort to sport 🤪 surely nothing can alter to braking performance?

should be in the idrive settings for brakes, at least for some models that have that option

Missing the point I am making, if you aren’t changing the discs or callipers then how can you change their performance from comfort to sport.

Are they increasing or deceasing the servo assistance?

Another thing about the new dash display, we don’t have the box that flash’s red when you need to up change.

yea, i would guess they are just closing faster

as to the box that flashes when you need to up shift, i have seen it, below the camera system that watches the driver, although i have only seen it flash yellow so far.

You might be right that it only flashes yellow, I’ve seen it in a video in action but thought it was red so maybe my mistake.

yes they just change the resulting pressure applied to the brakes based on your foot on the pedal

so is android auto the only thing this new update came with? Just curious if i should waste my time dealing with my dealer who takes forever to do anything. Made an appt for my break in service and when i dropped the car off i was told i wouldn't get it back till at least Monday (it was Friday morning). I laughed and said no. It's an oil change and a single diff fluid change. Max an hour of work. SA said let me see what i can do and bam i had the car back 4 hours later. Can only imagine how they'll try and F me over if i come in for a SW update, lol. #needmoredealers

A future release of the software is supposed to fix that, for now they release the vehicle to me and said they would notify me when the update was out and I could come back.

I now have Android auto and I noticed that the M view for the heads up display has changed. Not the long tach bar that took up a lot of real estate. It's compact now. The instrument cluster is still that crappy view and not the M view that the latest cars are getting.
so how did you get the update? i have M5 COMP 2020 and i didn't get the update. did it come OTA or through the dealer?

I received the update through the dealer but if I were you, I'd wait a bit longer and see if you get something OTA. The update I received from the dealer still has bugs and my sports exhaust is muted. From what my service advisor told me they have been informed of the issues and have it logged as a ticket to correct in the next release. When is that? Who knows? Maybe the OTA updates has those fixes.
