Overly Warm Transmission Tunnel

So for the first time this morning on my way into work i noticed my right leg was getting increasingly warm. started feeling around the console leather, and the top around the shifter and found the whole area quite warm. Don't recall feeling this over the past month of ownership nor on any other car i've owned.

I did some searching and saw some complaints about it in some of the other model threads but everyone kept chocking it up to "RWD" cars which didn't make much sense to me. Could it be the location of the secondary cats maybe?

anyway, just curious if anyone else feels this.

I would check to see if the climate control in the back seats is set to hot... I noticed this on my 5 series a little while ago. It felt like the transmission tunnel was really hot, but it ended up being the climate control for the rear passengers.

Ya I'll give that a check. I keep it turned off and no ones been in the back so curious if it somehow got turned on and put on full heat. Haha

I've experienced very hot transmission tunnel both in winter and now in summer.

In winter the cause was, as mentioned above: super hot setting for the rear passengers, and it was pushed accidentally by my snowboard gear.

In the summer: driving in 30c+ the AC doesn't seem to keep up, and yes I indeed experiencing exactly what you are describing.

I had the same issue this winter on a long trip and pulled over when I noticed because I was concerned it was a transmission issue. As mentioned above, someone had just turned up the rear zone heat all the way...never had a car with a center console that can get this hot...small issue for such an incredible machine

Same. Console got strangely hot last year on the right side and it was pretty alarming...until I realized one of my kids cranked up the rear heat and that's all it was.

So happened again. Rear AC was not on. And I noticed it was only hot on driver side. Not passenger side at all.

With the dual zone temp in the back it sounds like you have the rear passager side climate set to a higher temp.

I always make sure to hit the climte sync button up front. This syncs the front and back. try that and see if it helps. If you're still having issues I would take it in for service.

well I've never touched it or had anyone sit in the back yet. But maybe. I hate the you can't prevent it from turning on like in my X5. Makes no sense when it does and doesn't turn on. If it's really hot out it always turns on and that annoys me as it steals air from the front vents.
