placing an order for a M40i......need help on the Anthracite Silver soft top option
Hi,
I am ordering a M40i in Hong Kong, and the one and only dealer here spec all the M40i with Anthracite Silver tops... while the 20i gets the black soft top. With no demo car yet, I have no idea what this soft top looks like. Most likely I am going to order the Sapphire Black metallic colour, do you guys think this Black Sapphire/Anthracite Silver combo will work? Please give me some advise... It's a very dark gray with a silver thread, think of it as a metallic black vs jet black for the black top. It will work with black for sure but if you are ordering the black wheels, you may want to skip it for an all black look. However, keep in mind that it will be more forgiving of the inevitable crease marks and slight discoloration.

When I saw it in person, I was not particularly impressed with the Anthracite top. My best description of the material up close is that it looked like unwashed new denim, and from a few feet away it looked like a black that had faded. My preference is for the black top.

The addition of the "silver thread" was intended to reduce cabin temperatures on sunny days, and therefore is more than just a cosmetic addition. The anthracite top reflects back more light, where as the standard top absorbs it.
Given that I live in the Southeast United States, having as much UV resistance as possible is worth the additional $200. I actually liked the way it looked, compared to the 'flat' black, standard top. So it was a win/win for me. |

I have the Moonlight Black (Anthracite) top on my M235i and love it. I'd for sure get it again on my next convertible. It is definitely better at hiding folds and creases than the standard Black top.

Moonlight black top on black works. I have it on my SFR M40i. I was hesitant at first, but glad I got it. It matches better with the cerium gray wheels, but that's personal preference.

Thank you guys for all your input.
From the photo, the Anthracite silver color actually looks like black when the car is indoor. Got a reply from my dealer saying that the Anthracite top is a standard equipment for M40i in Hong Kong and it is difficult for them to change it back to Black. Even if they can, they will have to charge me. my build will be a Sapphire Black with the cerium trims and an Ivory interior......hope it works out |

Haven't had any rocks in my brakes yet either and I've driven over some sketchy spots. Maybe I wasn't driving fast enough, or I was driving to fast???

I have a M40i Glazier Silver Metallic with the Moon Light Black top and it also looks great. Didn't car for the Jet Black soft top color. Just my preference.
