Winter Rims
I've been known to bend a rim or two in the winter from potholes...so this time around with the M3's 19's I'm not interested in doing it again. What rims do you guys recommend for dedicated winter use (i'm not talking about tires like this thread http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=161424 )
RIMS either 17's or 18's p.s. Maybe they could be used to mount some race rubber if I ever get into doing AutoX or trackdays, but this would be secondary and not my main focus...

With winter wheels a non-staggered setup is the best for traction and control. Not totally essential though. I can't remember the recommended style for the M3, but I know a couple members have it.

True, skinnier is better for snow--thy just don't look very good under the big wells.

how much does that setup cost? i remember reading in the manual that bmw recommends 235/40 18's for the car, but so far tirerack doesnt have any non-staggered setups listed as available for the car

I was planning on getting a winter set but seeing that I have a daily beater I opted not to. I'm just going to avoid the snow completely and only take it out on dry days when the weather is at least 40F or higher. Save that money and go on vacation.

yeah I thought about that but its not really the snow that I'm worried about since I have a beater also (Element) its the pot holes that we have in Northern NJ and NY, obviously winter rims will have snow rubbers on but I don't feel like bending the 19's, I may buy some stock 18's if someone is selling for a good price...

i think the reccomended bmw 18 inch winter tire size allows for tire chains. when i bought my dunlop winter tires i remeber the guy at tirerack telling me that. I bought a set of M6 knock-offs for my car (05 m3) and after about 4 weeks they were TOAST. Also, they required a ton of lead to get them close to balanced. Beware of the chinese knock-offs.

yeah i may go w/ the 19's route since I'm not liking too many styles I see in 18's
anywhere else to shop other then tirerack? I have my eye on the Breyton GTS's, but wouldn't those defeat the purpose of winter wheels to protect my stockers from potholes....

What size 18" wheel with what offset would fit 235/40 R18 tires on the M3? Not looking to spend the coin for OEM wheels.
I'm looking for a true winter set up and keep the OEM 19's in storage. I can sacrifice "performance" snow tires for a true snow tire. |

Offsets are not correct. Fronts may work with 10mm spacers. I'm sure someone has tested these.
