A friend pointed out to me as we were discussing this LifeTime Transmission fluid craziness, that ZF's own website recommends changing the transmission fluid at 50k miles. I'll be DIY transmission fluid change this fall. At least that does not require a super computer to accomplish.

Hardly a super computer. ISTA is all you need. I run on a junk surface tablet.

Yeah all you need is just the hard drive space lol unless you just install the files for your model, other than that it just takes a while unless you have an ssd to read the text docs lol.

Really weird haha. Was fun to finally go WOT and let this thing rip.
Damn how did you get 1200 miles in 12 days or less essentially. Its been torture i'm only at around 150 miles, I know first world problems. The May snowstorm and cold rains next two days are not speeding it up, as I have 4x4 "beater" that I take to work.

And of course every ricer with a rattle can, teslas, stis, civics ext just happen to come out of woodwork for the few drivers that I had it. Taking it home from a dealer, there were opportunities to mess with some people that I had to bite my lip and drive like grandma. Where were all these people when I had mine E63S, I used to love just dominate over any fool that tried to race me. Of course after 1200 mile break in, I'd be stuck behind subarus and other cross over suvs going 10mph below, as it was with the AMG.

I drove my AMG 17K miles the first 8 months I owned it, I love the car so much, I would go for hour long drives around town every weekend nights. I'm trying to savor the M5 this time, and only drive it when its needed and not pointlessly. But the break in period is hard hahaha

I flew to San Diego and drove my 1st M5 home. Left SD at 1pm Sunday and got to my dealer in Portland at 4pm Monday afternoon. Went to the service department and told them I needed the breakin service on my new M5. My SA said, When did you buy it? Yesterday. I think I'm even a bit over. She kinda gave me the stink eye, but then realized I was serious. Good times.

Don't necessarily recommend this, but there is no agonizing wait and you get to know your new car pretty fast.

Enjoy. They're a blast.

send the specs you are using, the ISTA site I was reading up on said the minimum specs were i7, 16 gig ram, 200 GB Hard drive (or something in that range). I'd get a junk surface tablet if I knew it would run the program.

I run it on both a super computer and a junk computer lol, I have my personal laptop which is anAlienware area 51m with an I9 9900k 64g ram and on the flip side I have my shop computer which is one of those old ass Toshiba high school spec computers with like an i3 that originally came with windows xp and upgraded it to win 7. You only need 200 gb hard drove if you want to be able to scan all cars, otherwise you probably only need like 50 gb. Definitely put it on an ssd though or you're never gonna read any of the instruction manuals.

Definitely don't need an i7. If you just want to do mnx and diagnostics you only need like 20GB. There's a company that sells the all the files you need with detailed Instructions and the order to download.

Made it much easier than trying to source it all myself and they periodically send you emails when sw updates are released.

Oh, I used to have an Alienware computer too...cerca 1998? Was killer at the time, 17 inch notebook. Ran for me for about 5 years. Used it for work...but when I was not watching myself I would play games on it too. Boss key. LOL.

I'm intrigued about the ISTA program.....the 200 gig one includes more than BMW????

No, it includes all bmw and mini and rolls, otherwise you can just do like 20 gb for just say f90 m5s and each other car adds like half a gig like adding g30s for example going all the way back to old models

I use an OG surface like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/12530030670...#38;media=COPY

Run ISTA off a microSD card. I get a warning that it is 50hz slower than required but works without issue.

ISTA is the software BMW techs use. It will provide all service manuals, builds troubleshooting plans based on current fault codes (tells you what to replace in what order), has tons of test plans and adaptation features, can do 1-click I-level updates (with ICOM). Pretty useful tool.

reading up on it on here https://www.diagnose-software.com/info?currency=USD

each website I find to 'download' looks sketchier than the last.

Which interface cable do you use?

"Ethernet Cable For all new F series models."

BMW M-series: F80, F82, F83, F10, F06, F12, F13, F15

F90 not listed here...

The sketchier the website the better lol, but yeah it's just gonna be a mega download link usually. (You gotta get around the download limit by downloading a Downloader and you're good to go. I just used a kdxan for the old generation cars and enet for the new ones but you can get an icom if you want as well

Works great on F90.

It'll work fine. Probably just started selling before the F90 but all Modern cars will work.

And ya I felt the same way and found it a pain to use mega and then the extra things I had to download to use it. That's why I had that company just email it to me in 1 zip file for £10.

And the 20GB includes all F series cars not just the F90.

1200 mile break in completed!

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but in simple terms is this a one time download or in Maverick's case purchase of a zip file to upload to a laptop? Then the software can be used to diagnose problems/errors, indicate error codes, identify repair processes and the necessary parts? Is this a one-time acquisition or does the device the software is loaded on have to be connected to the internet to obtain the vehicle information for diagnostics and repair information? I am interested in this, but the route to obtaining and using it does not seem straightforward based on comments here. Second it is something I would hopefully not need for a while as my car is a 2021 with extended warranty. But my experience with cars I have had for many years, these things may not be available when I would need it in maybe 7-10 years and the company could be out of business.
