Dinan reflash dyno'd

Hi guys,

I got the Dinan reflash this week and contacted Shiv on Wednesday and offered to let him dyno my flashed 2007 E90 6mt.

We met this afternoon and I offered Shiv seat time in my car before the dyno. I also go the chance to drive his car. Two things stood out to me. First, boost car under partial throttle was more noticeable in his car than mine. I don't know if I'd go quite 70-80% throttle but my car's acceleration is definitely more pronounced in the last 50%. Second, relatively speaking my car seems to run out of steam at higher rpm. Off the line under full throttle both cars responded similarly but my acceleration seems to taper off at higher RPM. I found saying "wow" quite a bit at the difference. Shiv probably got tired of me saying that.

Some additional background. Shiv was pretty much right describing me as an impartial observer to the whole tuner war thing. I've been following developments since I decided to get a 335i for my next company car. I ordered in 7/07 and took delivery in late August. I love the car.

Even though the dyno didn't show that last 15 hp or so I was hoping to see today, I am very happy with my decision to go with Dinan. My employer was generous enough to purchase (not lease) a 335i for my company car. I really needed the warranty before I felt comfortable upgrading. After the car gets retired to more "toy" status who knows what I'll do. But for now Dinan is the only realistic option for me.

Below 3000rpm, the dinan seema to be making more tq than the v2 and seems flatter across the torque curve than the v2. Shiv, can u comment?

are you kidding me right?

hey op do you have custom dp? if you dont have dp, you only have catback system right? I was looking at the A/F mixture.
The A/F reading is not actual reading when you have catback systembecause cat convert the 5 gas (HC,CO. CO2, O2, NOX) so we have clean air( the Clean Air ACT ) if you want to get the actual A/F reading, yOu need to probe it before the cat if you have catback system. This mean you have drill a hole in before the cat to get the actual reading of A?F mixture(lean ( too much Oxygen content or rich ( too much gas content) ). 2nd if you have catless exhaust system, You will have actual a/f reading.

Actually, half those Dinan runs are with an intake (no filter, no box). Didn't really help. So the only difference, other than the tune, is a cat-back exhaust. I suspect adding a catback to Bob's car would pick up another 5-10whp. Thanks for contributing Bob!

LACA335i-- Not quite. More like 400+ pulls. I started a least a couple new directories for my own car since we started tuning it over a year ago.

sahjakh-- I don't believe the Dinan curve is any flatter in general. It's flatter around 3k rpm. V2 is flatter around 5k rpm. v2 makes less torque below 3000rpm because it makes less boost (only 9-11psi) down there. This was a concession we made for those running catless downpipes. Just playing it safe until we install ours and make a dedicated map for it. We'll bring it up to v1.x levels soon.

Just on set-ups that start to aggressively taper off boost above 5500rpm (Dinan, v1.x, Xede, etc,.). With v2, on the other hand, an intake is worth 10-50whp depending on User Tq/boost settings.

It probably is only 2-3 WHP at the very most and Driver72 did a test on this to give us a baseline. Another 1 PSI boost might be another story because I'm sure v2 is gaining from the intake?

Another reason that makes PROcede/Xede are winners , for those of you who can make your mind up. with the Dinan all you get is a software, at least for now, i dont think they will be releasing different maps of it.

Sorry, just had to throw this one up. Anyways we are going to get haters on this thread soon, so WTH.

how did you probe and get the A/F mixture ? is it from the tail pipe? you have something to probe before the primary cat?

No boost trace during this dyno.

Dinan did post stock and flashed boost information with their original dyno...it would be interesting to see how that compares with v2. Based on the dyno and seat of the pants I would expect Dinan to taper off more quickly.

The boost is what determines the power output. Often people ask what puts out more power, tune X, or tune Y, but the reality is tune X makes more power because its working the factory turbos harder. It has little to nothing to do with the way the tune is implemented (piggy, flash, boost controller, etc) and everything to do with the boost settings.

So don't get down on the car if it makes a little less power, you're just making a little less boost. And on the plus side will experience longer engine life and less hassles than if you were running higher boost levels.

I m probably going get flame. who car.. I never like Dinan reflash method. However, they are solid. When dinan reflash anything, they are so the number are so converative .. JUice box 2 , vishnu and xede number are high cause they dont have to warranty you if the engine blow up. All Tuner only design for high preformance on that car. Now they will leave the driver how to use it.

For example. It is not the gun that kill people. It is a person that triggered the gun that kill someone.

He was talking about that a few weeks back, well not a JB1 but a extra boost for Dinan users.. That could make it interesting..
