1200 mile service done at 750 miles

Took my car in to have 4 tires mounted/balanced. SA called me and said that they had also performed the 1200 mile service because the 'computer told them too' when he scanned the key. The car is a '19, non comp, 3 weeks old, and has 750 miles on it.

I know I should probably trust he wouldn't make it up (why would he?) but I am always at least a little skeptical when it comes to dealers/service departments. I am also a little irritated they did it without asking, although maybe they were just trying to be helpful.

The paperwork also indicates they used only G4, although everything else I've read on here indicates they should have used G4 and G2 - could it be a diff between '18s and '19s?

Just looking for others thoughts on this ... whether there are any documents out there that indicates the service can be done as early as 700 miles (he said between 700 and 1600) and whether using just G4 is ok.

It's not a lease so I kind of care that it was done correctly.

That's not good dude.
The car is running special oils during the break-in period.
750 miles is far away from 1200 ...

Special oils? Do people really believe this? If there were special oils used to further the longevity of the engine wouldn’t they always be used? Car is fine.

The oil used for the break-in period isn't the same than the oil used after the first service , at least for the engine.

I had a dealer in Virginia ask me on my previous M3 if I wanted the break-in service done when I took it in with about 900 miles. I told them no...I'd bring it back at 1200. Whether it makes a difference I don't know...but I wanted them to do it as close to 1200 miles as possible.

Pretty sure G2 and G4 should both be used, as the requirements are different for the front and rear differentials.

I believe it's based not just on mileage, but how the car has been driven that affect the service intervals. I've always ended being told by the on-board computer that my service was due before the "standard" mileage was reached. Not unusual in my experience.

I take it you must have driven it like you stole it for the first 750 miles??!!

I'm usually on the F8X part of the forum, but this thread caught my eye. Seems that in the last year or so on that forum we're seeing a lot of reports similar to this one, where dealers are arbitrarily doing this break in service way too soon. And if I've read the OP correctly this dealer did it without asking permission first. Extraordinary.
Arguments regarding when to do oil service go on ad nauseam so I don't want to start that here. What bothers me here is the diff. That very expensive assembly is shipped from the factory with break-in fluid. That's why they flush the diff at the end of the break-in. At 1200 miles. When it's actually broken in. Ever wonder why there's a ground speed limitation during break in? It's the diff.
Some of those on the F80 forum who have reported this also report that these dealers only changed the engine oil, and did not flush the diff. This is not a good situation imo. If I was the OP I would make a serious effort to find out the status of my diff.

2-Trans oil change
3-diff oil change
4- anything else?
5- no ECU limiters on this car correct?

regarding the trans: DCT is a big mystery. not everyone is getting that as part of the 1200. mine was done, many others report the opposite. i have no idea why.
regarding performance limiters: there are no performance limiters (other that driver sanity) on these cars. however, LC is locked out until the 1200 is completed.
regarding the 8 speed automatics, those are not relevant to my platform so i don't know.

On M5 the LC shouldn't be locked. The car is fully unlocked from factory.

Thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it. Here is the latest:

I followed up with the SA today about my concern that G2 was not used. It seems that G2 was not used because the front diff was not done as part of the service, only the rear - and for that they used G4. He said they do what is specified by their system when they scan the car key and their system told them to do the rear. Whether that is the truth or not, I have no way to tell.

Does anyone have anything from BMW that indicates both front diff is part of this 1200 mile/run-in service? The F90 training manual definitely indicates the rear is but nothing about the front.

At the end of it all, I might just have to trust that they did what the computer told them to and that it knows better than I do -- hard to believe but definitely possible!

Based on my invoice, they only did an oil change and rear diff as part of this service.

As per manual.

There is no transmission oil change required at 1200 mile service

The final drive oil which means both differentials needs to be changed at 1200 mile service.

FYI LC is released at the factory and not part of 1200 mile service. However it should not be used before 3100 miles
