+1 If you were buying a track car you would not be getting an M5 Comp... This is an extremely capable and versatile super saloon... It is amazing because it probably feels fully at home on a track (thank you BMW)!
I would personally opt for the sunroof because both myself and my wife enjoy getting some sun through the roof on those calm cruises down the Pacific Coast and my spirited driving sessions through the mountains. On the other hand, if I had a second car that could get me some sun, I would absolutely go for the carbon roof and then promptly get it PPF'd.

This new rule enhances the safety of these vehicles by significantly reducing the risk of fatalities and serious injuries caused by backover accidents. "

Sounds like BMW is ready to open themselves up for Class action with their greediness over options..
Unless it's a typo and they mean 360 degree camera. Which is an option.

I'm saying the basic one is probably standard and this is the 360 degree one. Maybe?

Wait for the Lci so you can get the new iDrive.

95% of owners won't take them anywhere near a track. They'll see the garage, the gym, and the grocery store.
I would say 99.5% lol...

I love the current M5 dials vs all digital that the E class has. Wish they keep it that way

Isn't that what a normal M5 is for? Just seems ironic for a model that is labeled as 'competition' to be heavier and have a higher center of gravity. Nonetheless, I'm sure owners will enjoy them.
This is a luxury sports sedan - you could make a very sound case that a carbon fiber roof is non-sensical (as well) for the vast majority of use cases this vehicle will see.

We're not talking about a GT3 RS or a Lotus here.

If we're naming the car the M5 Competition, a CF roof is what makes sense.

Would probably drive up the cost of the car too much. They're still about $8,000, right?

Plus, the 95%(let's be honest, .5%) of owners will never need them anyway.

I think if we're naming a car a sporty name like 'Competition', it needs to reflect as such.

This isn't a package anymore. BMW is naming it the M5 Competition. Same thing irks me about the Black Series models from MB.

Dude it has all wheel drive...

It's an M5. The whole point of the car is that you're able to have it all (for some people, that includes a moonroof).

The comp package is marketing - great marketing (clearly).

The only thing anyone will be competing for in this thing are light-to-light ego boosts (and, of course, an air strip race or two). Nothing wrong with that, but let's go easy with the ///M dogma.

Yes but I could accept a higher base price versus checking the $9500 box haha

I think they struck a good balance for M5 Competition with a few more balljoints for precision, more negative camber than M5, etc. I think this car should strike the right balance for the majority of prospective buyers and considering the great reviews of the F90 M5 base model, this should be the clear favorite driver’s tool in this segment at least until E63 Black Series becomes reality. I love that BMW stuck to useful, subtle tweaks like these to change the way the car feels without throwing away the practicality and usefulness of the M5 or without going too crazy with the price. I personally find ceramic brakes to be borderline useless (except for keeping wheels clean) so I’m glad they are optional for the people who like them. If I were buying one of these, I would definitely go for the carbon roof, though.

I don’t know if you have ever looked underneath a Black Series product but AMG has always shocked me with just how far they go to make the chassis, suspension, etc. of the Black Series models separate and MUCH more aggressive than other AMG vehicles. When you look under their skin, the extensiveness of habdling upgrades is very impressive and I love how they keep the interior very nice and luxurious as I would want in a Mercedes product. They get that “luxury track car” balance much, much, much more right than BMWs past several attempts at a similar formula (GTS, CS, etc) in my opinion.
