If you're in a state that doesn't have smog tests then I wonder if the dealer would care. I'm guessing removing the uppers will change the way the car works to some extent and they wouldn't like it.

I spoke to two different so cal dealers today. Both said basically the same thing. You can put stuff on your car but if they see it they have to flag it in the system. And anytime in the future you have a possible warranty issue they will refer back to it. Even if you have removed it. I asked about downpipes and didn't get real clear answer and the second person I spoke with suggested I call BMW headquarters.

Downpipes does not void warranty (maybe in the west coast) certainly not in the East Coast.
Dealers here rather see a downpipe than a Jb4 any day of the year!
Any dragstrip numbers on the M3?

i think he's referring to 60-130 highway pulls as faster.

from a dig the m5 is clearly faster with AWD.

The M3 would need 700+ whp and drag radials to come close

They will still find the piggyback exceeding injector psi and other things, cars been flagged in North East for jb4 (they started the Flagging trend, because ppl are running aggressive maps on pump gas) so they go flash since their powertrain is already out and are happier and faster without bending rods.

Save your money and don't mod a stage1 do it right the first time, those resale value of the simple ones will be like not getting anything back.

Not this one since its on a street tires, but similar cars already have done so in the area 10.2-10.8 Stock Turbo

560-570whp Stock Hardware are doing 10.7-10.8 (Custom E85 Tune Only)

If you scroll here you can see 3rd video he's also running against a F90 m5 with Jb4 who get's put on 2-3 cars

580-600whp M3's run 10.5-10.6 at the 1/4 mile on stock turbo

620-650whp run low 10s (upgraded turbo/stock engine)

700whp+ are running 9's now (stock engine too)

Deleting earlier post... I can't seem to motivate myself to fully/appropriately respond to this stuff today...

@Hockeytyme

Just placed my order for 2020 M5 as well.
I suggest waiting for Bootmod3 as it allows you to switch from Stock to Stage 2 from your phone within 30sec
I was worried about warranty getting voided as well with catless downpipes so I confirmed with Bootmod3 guys that I can run Stock map with catless downpipes without getting CEL (engine light) as there's an option to keep it off in their app. You can switch it to stage 1/2 on the go whenever you feel like it.

I'm not following the advice you've apparently been given here: what does being able to run a stock map on an ECU-tuned bimmer have to do with voiding your warranty--the two are utterly unrelated? Dig deeper if warranty is a concern because flashing the ECU on an M-car these days is one step shy or realizing your warranty concerns.

BMW will only void your warranty if a tune causes a problem.
I recommended him to wait for bootmod3 as it allows you to switch between stock map and tune map
There's less chances of things going wrong if you're running a stock map with downpipes and running tuned map for weekend fun.

Agree with you BMW are now cracking down on tuned cars and it doesn't take them long to find out.

Before talking to guys at Bootmod3, I was worried I would have to get a tune to go with my downpipes so I don't get CEL (wasn't looking for more power just wanted more sound from dp's)
But now I can run stock map with downpipes without worrying about anything going wrong. Though it'll still be tuned but less chances of things going wrong on stock map.
