Winter setup recommendation for F90 M5C
What's the consensus (if there's one) on a good setup for the winter on this car? I have the 789M rims FWIW. It has the MPS4S tires which aren't going to fly in the (even mild) winter, I suspect.
The car is leased and I'm trying to avoid, if possible, dropping ~$3500 on the 19" OEM winter setup. Tire Rack only shows the Pirelli Sottozero Serie II as an option, $1600 shipped (+ whatever dealer will charge for install). Are there other options? What are people doing? I'd be perfectly fine buying a used OEM winter set but only saw 1 offered recently here for $2800 (and it sold anyway) - at that rate, I'd just buy a brand new set myself (that one had 1k miles and a bit of rash on one of the rims IIRC). I can also get the OEM set and then try to sell it in 3 years but if the M5 sees a different bolt pattern by then, may not be many buyers. Suggestions/opinions welcomed. Thanks |

You can get Michelins too - Pilot Alpin 4. They have the stock 20" sizes - 275/35/20 and 285/35/20. That's what I plan on using and we get decent amounts of snow here.

Thanks. Any reason TR doesn't suggest them? Is there some subtle fit issue? Also, are the Alpins considered better than the Sottos?

No idea why TR doesn't offer them. They'll fit without any issues and I'd say they're better than the Pirellis, yeah. I had them on my F10 and the road to my house is pretty steep - didn't have any issues in the winter. They also had exceptional grip in the wet and more than decent grip in the dry.

Slight update: TR does carry the Alpin PA4s in staggered after all.
$377.94 275/35/20 $406.88 285/35/20 They're V rated on all corners - Sottos can be W (or V for slightly cheaper), in both sizes. But I suspect V is plenty for winter driving |
