Service notification for 1200 mile service...with only 10 miles on the car?

Just took delivery of my M5 Comp today...and I have a service notification that my 1200 mile service is upcoming. As a result, the orange light (outline of a car just up under the tachometer) stays constantly on...even though there are only 10 miles on the car. Seems a bit premature to have the notification (i.e., orange light) on already.

Anyone else have this? I called BMW genius and they said that notification should come on during initial startup, but then go away. Mine, however, stays on.

Any recommendations on how to clear this out?

Mine was there the whole time starting pickup. Just ignore and show up at your 1200.

I don't think you can clear it out. When I was taking delivery of my M5 Comp with 6 miles on the odometer I asked the "genius" what the little orange car light on the instrument panel was and was told it was a service reminder. Mine was on until I got it back from the 1,200 service.

Thanks - BMW Genius said it should go away...sounds like he wasn't much of a genius!!!

Glad to see no issues with my car on day 1.

Thanks! I need to get some pics posted on here of my new delivery...but it needs a proper wash first. It's DG (which I love)...but I'll admit it's a bit understated and not quite as eye-popping as your MBB!

That's what I have...seems ridiculous for it to be on for the entire 1200 mile break in period. I feel like my E92 M3 break in service notification didn't come on until I had about 900 miles on the car.

Maybe meant to be a "friendly reminder" to not beat on the car!

I suspect BMW did it this way to subconsciously make people drive the car more gently during the break in period. Warning lights on expensive cars tend to make people "take it easier" on the vehicle.
