New M5 will apparently have electric range of about 43 miles

Unsure if this was already posted - Saw the article below, stating that the new M5 will have electric range of about 43 miles. I believe this is less than the XM, does that mean it may weigh less than initially thought or is that not how any of this this works?
Also the article goes on to state the dimensions of the new M5, and it looks like it will be roughly the same size as M8 gran coupe in respects to width and length, which is... interesting.

https://www.bmwblog.com/2024/03/21/b...f%2043%20Miles

Im trying to remain optimistic about the new M5 but the more I hear about it, the more I'm like meh. I will reserve my final judgement until I see reviews and possibly get a test drive in. However, I LOVED my F90 and if the reviews of the new M5 are not at least on par with the F90, I think I will stick to getting another M8 and enjoy the last of the V8 ICE. Don't know if anyone else is thinking the same?

I just want them to reveal the new M5 already!!

I don’t follow your comment on the range to weight comparison. It gets less range than the XM, so it might weigh less than thought? If anything wouldn’t that potentially indicate it’s heavier than initially thought since the range is even lower?

He’s saying that might mean the battery is smaller.

Yes, this.
I don't know if it really does make all that much of a difference.

Ahh yeah duh that makes sense - thanks.

With that said -- see:

https://g60.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2083158

+ commentary on that from:

https://www.carscoops.com/2024/02/20...over-5300-lbs/

The report adds that the M5 will use an 18.6 kWh battery pack, which is smaller than the 25.7 kWh pack of the XM.

Not sure if there is like a back of hand way to tell the weight difference between the batteries but the reporting def indicates it is smaller.

The reveal has to be any day now, for a car that starts production in July. Oh, and if it's roughly the same size as the M8 4-door sedan, no thank you BMW.

Man what a gargantually big POS is the new M5. The same failed concept that has not worked in a single AMG and Porsche e-Hybrid Turbo S product. Congrats BMW. Biggest POS launch BMW has made recently. XM was an abomination but this is worse.

And on top of all this, I just can't get myself to like the new 5 series design. I attended the BMW Ultimate Driving Experience at MetLife stadium this past weekend and had a chance to really observe the new 5-series in person, and it just doesn't do it for me. All of the sharp angles and creases are very jarring, there's no flow or "smoothness" to the design. Specifically some of the elements that hurt my eyes - the lack of an accent crease down the side results in a huge field of sheet metal on the doors, the almost vertical grill with almost 90 degree transition to the hood, and the integration of the lower fascia on the rear bumper that juts upwards on the corners. Oh, and I'm just not feeling the double-hump in the hood.

I love how AMG is going back on its failed Hybrid Models (the New G63 is proof of that), yet somehow, BMW goes forward with the same failed strategy. Congrats BMW.

I was driving next to a G90 mule the other day on the freeway and thought it looked much better with those fender flares than the new standard 5 series. That battery will add a lot of torque off the line. Let's see how it drives, especially when they add a comp model next year with more power.
