Different break-in rules in new owner's manual
My 2023 M5C is on its way to the port. I was able to generate the PDF owner's manual and I noticed it has different break-in rules than the owner's manual I had been looking at (from a 2023 VIN I found on a dealer's website):
That manual said stay under 5500rpm until 1200 miles. Gradually increase speed to 137mph until 3100 miles. My manual says: Stay under 5000rpm for 600 miles, then under 6000 until 1200 miles. No other restrictions are listed after the break-in service. I wonder why they changed it? |

Well now I don't feel so panicky about having put mine over 5k a few times "accidentally" sitting at around 700 miles.
I wonder if that other version was for a different country? I'd love to have permission to do 137mph on a consistent basis because BMW told me I had to. |

I wondered if it was a European manual version, but it has lots of references to US and Canada, and the VIN was from a US dealer. But the revision date at the bottom is "X/20" and mine is "11/23". Maybe that dealer's listing was BS and it wasn't a 2023 model. In any event, I'll follow my manual...or at least try really hard to. I can't remember if I behaved during my 2009 CTS-V's break-in or not. |
