I've driven both AMG E63S (although in sedan form, but the wagon handles very similarly) and M5.

Really any thread you find of E63S vs M5 here or even on the Merc forums - and there are plenty - will pretty much answer any questions you have, although of course it will be a tad bias being that this is a BMW forum and they ended up with M5's.

If its between the two I'd personally choose the E63S, although mostly because I love a high performance wagon, they're very fun and practical, also somewhat unique since there aren't many.

I am coming from a 2018 E63s Wagon. I would only take the E63 over the M5 in wagon form only. I've only had my M5 comp for a few weeks so I haven't put it through it's paces. Right now I'd say they were comparable. I definitely preferred the sound of the E63 over the M5.

Thanks! I thought I was going to be able to transfer them over to the M5 since they share the same bolt pattern but it was a no go 😔

I am driving a W213 E63S wagon (chose this over the M5). I was a former F10 M5 owner. Comparing the wagon & the old M5, it's a huge leap, in terms of performance, reliability, rides and flexibility.

Nothing bad to say at all for the MB.

I am now looking at the E63S wagon, how is tyre noise compared to the F90 M5 Comp which I have now, Thanks

I would wait a little for the refresh. Apparently MB will be addressing complaints of ride quality and road noise.

I had a w212 e63 facelift before i get my m5 f90 and seriously I don't miss my amg.

The mags are so sensitive and broke everytime last year i had 2 set of oem and they keep broking .

If you want to go with amg take the tires/mags protection.

How did you find the tyre noise, was it excessive?. Thanks

It was there because it's a wagon and has a more open interior. Road noise was never anything that bothered me. I think some people tend to fixate on certain things. What I remember was the sound of the motor and the bangs and pops of the exhaust.

I love the RS6's looks, just not the biggest fan of the some of the package, mainly the all touchscreen interior and MLB platform over a true RWD platform, but I'll take one regardless its just looks so good. Although Panamera ST is still my favorite in looks, although its honestly more a shooting brake than a wagon since it loses out on practicality.

+1 transverse engine front drive based albeit with great awd added. Can't overcome the architecture and inherent problems with front wheel drive based vehicles. All Audi's are understeering pigs

RS6 has been disappointing in the head 2 head matchups vs competition. But it does look fantastic.

I recently picked up a 2019 E63S sedan. I have driven the wagon before - it is very similar to sedan. I came from BMW for the past 12 years. I have never lived with the M5 but I did drive it at the M-town event last year. My take is that the M5 was a bit more polished - "too good" at being a super fast sports sedan for my taste. The E63 has more personality and the exhaust notes put a smile on my face in a way that the M5 did not.

As far as tire noise, it is noticeable at high speeds but not intrusive. I suspect this is true for all low profile performance tires. I bet if it was measured it would not be significantly different between E63 and M5. One thing that does make me a bit nervous is that the tires are not RFT (which I am used to from my past 3 BMW) and there is no spare. Not sure if there is a spare in the M5, but something to think about.

I test drove a E63S wagon, had a F10 M5 and now have a M8 comp convertible. The wagon sounds great but rides harsher than my old M5 or current M8. I'm not sure I like the screen layout in the current MBs but also wish my M8 had a dial rather than the side track for the tach. The wagon is certainly unique. Back in the day, I had a S6 wagon, and it was practical and stealthily sporty.
