Q: Carbon Roof/Sunroof

Waiting patiently as I can for my car. ETA a week.

Question: if you order the Glass Sunroof option, do you lose the M Carbon roof?

Asking for a friend...

Yes, it's one or the other. Can always do CF wrap w/ sunroof.

Thanks, that's what I suspected. I opted for sunroof and I kind of regret it. I was thinking resale. And the irony is, I NEVER use sunroofs.

First-World problems.

If you want a CF look simply wrap around the sunroof; I've seen this done w/ sunroof F10 M5's and it looks good.

I may. I'll just put this out there FWIW. It's not very explicit that the Carbon Roof is gone when you opt for the sunroof.

I just Built & Priced my car from scratch on bmw.ca. When you select the Glass Sunroof as a (free) option, the only thing even implying that the Carbon Roof is deleted, is the photo. For dim-wits like me, a Build-and-Price system ought to prompt the user that the Carbon Roof will be deleted and then maybe I'd give it some more conscious thought. Reasonable?

To be fair I'm surprised the configurator gives you a picture of the option. I'd take both sides. On one end, yes, maybe BMW could add a simple prompt and on the other, it does show a physical representation of what you would actually receive.

Unless its a panoramic roof, I'm never a fan of the little opening in most cars. Take note from Rolls Royce or S class, those roofs look amazing in the cabin.

In the M5 with Carbon roof and without glass, like other M cars, you get way more head space by a few extra inches which is a big deal if you're taller

my personal opinion is to never buy a car worrying about resale. Most cars depreciate, very, very few go up in value. Even then, you have to worry about not putting miles on it, keeping it pristine and keeping all of the records. At that point, you're not really enjoying the car. If you're in the market for an M5, money isn't really an issue for you, just get what makes you happy.

This M5, will likely never go up in value, nor do I think it will hold it's value, there's nothing that special about it to warrant that kind of thought.

Flame away!

All good points, thanks.

While I know I can simulate the CF look with a wrap, it kind of gnaws at me that - had I not knee-jerked at ordering something I never use just for my silly concern about resale - I would've wound up with the real thing. Headroom not an issue for me, but another plus to some.

Oh well. My fault. Time will tell if buyers of used F90's will be saying "hey where's the sunroof" or "hey where's the CF roof."

I drove by an F80 just now with a CF roof, and had to chuckle.

Have a good weekend.

I like the CF roof. Its a point of difference with other cars.

All my previous Beemers have had sunroofs, but so far, I have not missed the sunroof. And yes, the extra head room is great!

Two things I've noticed though: There appears to be more outside road noise coming into the cabin. Perhaps there is less sound deadening material with a CF roof? Secondly, being winter here, and on the days when the wife has the garage space and the M5 sits outside overnight (!), the cabin is really cold first up in the morning; more so than my previous cars. I hope inversely when the summer hits, the cabin will be cooler for the drive home?

Not sure why you think sunroof will have better resale value over CF. CF roof is usually an upgrade over regular sunroof, especially in a M car I'd think most ppl wants the CF roof.

For me it's an easy choice as I almost never use sunroof.

Going to opt for the CF roof to change things up a bit; I'm also 6'4" but have not felt this to be an issue in the 2 F10's M5's I've owned.

I love a sunroof, but it's just another potential source for BSR. So I stuck with the CF roof. Plus it's just cool, especially when you have a contrasting paint color.

I don't think I've heard a single person argue that the M5 will hold its value. Argue that side and you'll have to worry about getting flamed. People generally know what they are getting in to with these cars.

Not sure if I would put Xpel wrap on a lease car unless I plan to keep it.

Please read my message.I said”if you buy like me”. I don’t lease my cars. I paid cash for mine. Please don’t start I have address this in a previous thread please n why I paid cash? That’s my preference. This is why I invested in full Xpel Ultimate Plus PPF wrap.
