Winter tires READ IF YOU PUT ALPINS OVER YOUR STOCK WHEELS
I don't need snows and don't live in snow country. I did notice quite a few ppl on this board indicating they put Michelin Pilot ALPINS in 275 front and 285 rear. The thread patterns are different - directional vs asymmetrical. See this entire post to avoid problems

Just an FYI on this...
For the few of us who intentionally opted for 19" wheels, the BMW recommended winter set up sizing is down size to 265 on front and keep 285 on rear. That Alpin size combination is matching tread patterns - directional. They were the best winter tires I've ever run, including Nokians. |

For winter, I have 20 inches BBS wheels with 275 Alpins all around. Did I do that wrong? I've driven through a few snowy/frozen days without trouble.

Already went down that path, I think it was discussed in a few other threads. I switched my rears to 275 as well. Slightly stretched compared to the fronts, but no issues.

2nd season on my 275/285 PA4 and no issues for me. Don't think I'll be rushing to take them off. They were awesome today!! 👌

Pirelli Sotozero’s here and love them, second winter with them and they are very confidence inspiring in snow and wet cold roads. The car is pretty unstoppable in the snow with them.

Wheels so tires are square but wheels are not. This is an excellent tire and i find it far superior to the Pirelli sottozeros that i ran as a square set up in 255/35-20 for my Audi S6. |

Just wondering if there will ever be all season option for the 20s..?
Where I live we do snow sometimes but often only 1-2 weeks in a year. But the ground to get freeze up during winter months.. No use for snow tires, but all season could sure make drives more confident!

I went with Alpine PA4's 275/285 setup and they have been great in winter driving. Impressive stopping distance in snow/ice and awesome grip in twists and turns. Couldn't be happier!

whatever tires you choose for winter set I always try to run square set on oem rims , Michelin Alpine 285 35 20 for NYC roads are perfect grip is incredible . debating to get PS4 285 35 20 on the fronts for better quality ride. I believe BMW does not recommended Alpines for speed rating which is V 149mph liability issue . Just my few cents .

We wrote Michelin directly and they say that they don't recommend using their tires because the different profiles or thread patterns. VA vs HA.

So not quite the statement that they don't recommend using Michelin tyres (PA4 Fr&Rr) on the M5. There is no reference to tread patterns that I can see? I've got the PA4's and they seem fine so far and into their second season. |

I also use 275's all the way around. Staggered is not recommended for the snow.
